Bahnsen Knights Switch NSP Free Download Romslab Though Bahnsen Knights is primarily a story game—with a close resemblance to a Choose Your Own Adventure book—it doesn’t have a great story per se. There isn’t much momentum to its narrative or tension in the underlying mystery. Its best and most layered character—a dive bar owner with deep interests in mathematics and, ironically, the craft of writing interesting characters—is a bit of an anomaly. Nevertheless, Bahnsen Knights makes up for this with a surprisingly dense and intensely evocative atmosphere. At the center of the story is the titular cult headed by a former car dealer who found a barnful of Uwe Bahnsen-designed Ford Sierras and took it as a sign (or so he claims). The Bahnsen Knights are predictably senseless and cruel. The cult members emblazon the hoods of their cars with red crosses, “exorcize” roads by speeding toward oncoming traffic, and “feed” their enemies to tornadoes.
Accessible, brain-tickling puzzles throughout the story… including the return of solitaire!
Those tornadoes are a constant threat in the game’s American heartland, rendering the government useless and conjuring ideas of heavenly judgment. It’s an apocalypse that’s at once so Old Testament and so Americana that you could almost miss its most urgent modern parallel: the ever-accelerating rate of natural disasters brought on by climate change. Within seconds of starting Bahnsen Knights, the third in LCB Game Studio’s ‘Pixel Pulps’ series of games, we found ourselves inspired. Bloons TD 5 Switch NSP

We turned the lights down low, put on some headphones and, with the clear aim of savouring every moment, held the Switch’s OLED screen so close to our face that we became fully immersed in this visual novel’s rich four-colour pixel graphics and oscillating, unnerving chiptune soundscape. Our slightly obsessive behaviour was no surprise considering how much this writer enjoyed the previous two Pixel Pulps, Mothmen 1966 and Varney Lake
Decide the fate of characters in ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ style gameplay
Visual novels of genre-defining quality in the most crucial of ways—that they were a lot of fun to play (especially Mothmen). These predecessors were hyper-imaginative horror stories told to an impressive storytelling standard, seemingly inspired by the retro likes of Weird Tales magazine. To our tastes, this series already deserves to be the standard bearer for visual novels as a whole. They’re the kind of idiosyncratic, quality production that can elevate a genre out of what is a fairly small niche. Blood will be Spilled Switch NSP

Throughout the entire game, Boulder laments being on this case. His cover story for being in the gang is centred around his deceased wife and child. However, in reality, they are both back home, alive and well. Boulder frequently bemoans the fact that he isn’t with them, but does so with a level of grief and sorrow as if they are dead, which doesn’t quite square. They feel largely disconnected from the happenings of the story and seem only to serve Boulders guilt for taking a case far away from them.
Immerse yourself in the story with its rich, branching narratives and evocative illustrations
It’s a confusing narrative choice that ultimately just feels awkward, especially when Boulder evokes their passing when they’re actually home safe. This leaves the narrative of Bahnsen Knights in an awkward place. There’s some fascinating character work from Toni, as well as Kevin, the bartender at the local dive. His story is full of heart which juxtaposes the rest of the cast quite strikingly, but due to the length of the game overall, the story ends just as it feels like it is getting started.

As such, the characters start in interesting places but barely have the chance to change by the time the final act is closing. While the game is clearly and lovingly inspired by the genre, it doesn’t make much of an effort to explore it in any meaningful way. The 80s inspired visuals help to drive the savage storytelling, harsh yet beautiful to this old-timer’s eyes all the same. A limited colour pallet doesn’t take away from some impressive detail, red skies looming large over Ford Sierras, bloodied bodies and some manic facial expressions. Blood Waves Switch NSP
