An hour or so into your journey you may find yourself wondering what the hell is going on, and why you’re opening all of these doors in the first place. But then a “wow” moment will occur, ultimately peeling away parts of the mystery, and it’s these moments that will convince you to keep on pushing forward to get to the end. After an extremely disturbing opening sequence, the story begins by introducing you to Claire, who is visiting her catatonic mother in St. Barbara’s Hospital. ROMSLAB.COM Best Switch Games

She’s lost all track of time, and after realizing that she hasn’t had a chance to finish an essay for school, she decides to head down to the cafeteria and grab a cup of coffee to help clear her head. Once Claire finds out that the cafeteria is out of coffee, she begrudgingly starts to make the trek back up to her mother’s room but the elevator ride doesn’t go quite as planned, and Claire’s world turns into complete insanity quicker than you can say pumpkin latte. The once-sanitized hallways of St. Barbara’s Hospital have now transformed into filth-filled corridors dripping in blood and splashed with human entrails.
Find the truth, and help guide our protagonist thru the expanded and re-defined Claire: Extended Cut.
To make matters worse, shadowy enemies and a strange Slender Man-like figure stalk said hallways and will stop at nothing to hack and slash Claire until she is completely drained of blood. Thankfully, our hapless heroine runs into a trusty K-9 that will act as an alert dog and will bark upon entering dangerous areas and, in addition, will offer some companionship in an otherwise isolated world. As you progress, you’ll come across a number of puzzles that you’ll need to solve. They rarely come with any sort of instructions or hints, but aren’t exceptionally difficult. Fitness Boxing feat. There are enemies in the form of black figures that will chase you down. You can’t fight them, but you can sometimes jump over or run past, and in some cases you’ll be able to hide in a box or closet until they leave. At times Claire is accompanied by Anubis. He doesn’t fight or distract monsters, but every time you enter a room with monsters in it Anubis will let out a growl to warn you. On one hand, it’s a bit of a shame seeing the dog reduced to nothing more than the Silent Hill’s radio letting out static when the monster is near.
Multiple difficulty modes, including Nightmare mode where Claire can die from panic.
On the other, it’s an effective way to keep me on edge when monsters could be around any corner. Simply knowing that they’re there and all it’ll take is the screen scrolling just a little further to see them is a great scare. You won’t always have Anubis though, so getting used to not having him around is equally important. Puzzles run the gamut from brilliant to being so confusing that I basically had to brute force my way through it. For example, a puzzle involving hitting notes on a piano is unexplained and unintuitive. There didn’t appear to be anything in the room to hint what notes you’re supposed to be hitting. It was to the point where I had to refer to a guide for it. The guide gave me the answer, but also admitted that it just guessed and had no clue how you were supposed to reach that answer. On the other hand, a puzzle that required exploring a house to figure out where people died, then placing candles into a dollhouse recreation of the house into those rooms is rather brilliant. Thankfully almost all puzzles in the game are optional for either side quests or other minor rewards, making it easy to skip one that I didn’t understand. I’m a bit conflicted about Claire’s visual style.
Claire takes a wrong turn and stumbles into a dark passage of echoing doors and abandoned rooms.
The pixel art is beautiful and it’s clear that a lot of time has been spent on making each room and object feel unique. There’s very little sprite repetition, lots of little details that give character to the locations and movement where you don’t expect there to be any. And then, of course, the game decides to shroud it all in darkness. While the light mechanic does wonders for the atmosphere, it leaves the game looking rather uniform when in actuality it’s anything but. Every room looks different, surely to alleviate the risk of players getting lost. There’s also some amazing visual storytelling since each room is an integral part of Claire’s life and upbringing.

Oddly enough, the sprites you’ll be seeing most often are the ones which aren’t as detailed. Claire has a few distinct sprite sets for each stage of her life as mentioned before, and while each of these look great standing still, the quality of their run cycles vary. The jumping sprite is also particularly immersion breaking, especially considering the jump is not useful in many situations in the game. The same deal goes for the enemies in the game, which are largely monocolour and don’t have the same visual menace that some of the background sprites exhibit. Fisti-Fluffs Switch NSP
