The controls are responsive: a satisfying glide lets you dodge, weave, and line up shots with laser precision. As old-school shooters go, it’s easy to pick up and hard to master. Each enemy wave grows more ferocious as the game progresses. The primary gimmick? Enemies approach from the top, swooping in unpredictable patterns, demanding you hone both reflexes and prediction skills. There’s a novel twist: you can decelerate your ship using the “brake” button, letting you influence the speed of the action rather than being a passive passenger on the scrolling tract. This adds a subtle but crucial layer of strategy.
You can change various game settings such as game difficulty, and also reproduce the atmosphere of arcade display settings at that time.
Another distinct feature is the tractor beam rescue mini-game, which appears between regular bouts of blasting. Here, you snag falling POW pilots for bonus points, testing your ship handling under mild pressure. It’s a quirky palate cleanser between hardcore shooting segments is uncompromisingly challenging—a badge of honor for arcade purists. It may take a few tries to break even the mid-game barrier, but each run brings mini “aha” moments: reading enemy patterns better, discovering optimal routes, and surviving just one wave further. High score hunting is the core loop. Slay the Spire Switch NSP

While not dazzling by contemporary standards, there’s an honest charm to its minimalist art direction.
Operate your own aircraft to defeat countless approaching enemy UFOs and conquer the WAVE.
Enhancements let you toggle between sharp “HD” and fuzzy original filters, so you can play it as it was or as you remember it.Every zap, explosion, and coin-up tune is preserved with loving clarity. The digital bleeps and bloops work hand-in-hand with the tense, adrenaline-pumping gameplay. There is a case to be made for playing with headphones—or loud speakers—to get the full vintage arcade feeling. The simple but punchy soundtrack hypes you up, even after countless retries accessible, even to genre newcomers. Difficulty can be tweaked, continues are infinite if you want to just see the sights. Control remapping welcomes modern gamepad habits. The manuals (translated to English) provide context and tips, while quick-save lets you practice particularly brutal stretches of the game. Yet, purists can lock in the original settings and chase that classic challenge, preserving the spirit of the 1983 release. The spectrum of options means everyone—from casuals to diehards—finds a fun groove a visual overhaul, new enemy types, or expanded story. “Juno FIRST” sticks firmly to its roots: this is a straight-up arcade experience.
Players can also compete against each other from all over the world with their high scores.
Trimmed of modern progression systems and unlockable upgrades. If you’re looking for a shooter with deep customization or flashy graphics, this might feel barebones. That said, its discipline is refreshing. The lack of microtransactions, grinding, or artificially gated content makes “Juno FIRST” a perfect palate cleanser alongside sprawling AAA epics. It’s snack-sized fun—unapologetically old-school retro revivals, or just want to test your twitch reflexes, Arcade Archives “Juno FIRST” is a blast. Its fast-paced gameplay loop, tight controls, and careful preservation deliver everything that made early arcades addictive.

Modern enhancements don’t overshadow the heart of the original, but smooth out its rough edges for today’s players. But for those chasing nostalgia or looking to discover a hidden gem from Konami’s golden age, “Juno FIRST” soars as high as ever. Even four decades later, it proves you don’t need endless content to make a game worth returning to—just a spaceship, a starfield, and that unshakeable urge to chase your next high score. Eighteen total ROMS, including some rarities. This sounds great, right? I thought so too, until I realized it’s only the coin-ops that are packed in the set. Slave Zero X Switch XCI
