You can imagine how pleased I was to discover that Block-a-Pix Deluxe changes things up a little. While you’re still filling in a grid to reveal a picture, Block-a-Pix owes at least as much of a debt to Minesweeper and jigsaw puzzles as it does to picross games. Rather than figuring out patterns based on the X-Y axes, here numbers are placed around the board and you have to figure how to place quadrilaterals of various sizes that touch each number. Each board plays around with the associated colours, and you eventually reveal some neat-looking pixelated pictures.
It’s all about the Gameplay
Well, this is a puzzle game, and it doesn’t really pretend to be anything else… so there really isn’t a story! Your whole goal is to fill in a grid to make a wide variety of pixelated pictures. After pressing Play on the title screen, you are ready to jump right into the action. Basically, the puzzle is presented as a tiled grid. This is where the “Block” in the title comes in, as you are essentially creating a picture out of a bunch of different colored (and different sized) blocks. A smaller picture off to the right will show you how your picture looks. When you have filled in the grid, it shows the completed picture. There is a timer, but don’t let that worry you! This is only there to tell you how long it took to complete the puzzle- it doesn’t affect whether you complete the puzzle or not.
Graphics and Sound
The graphics are just fine for this game! The interfaces are streamlined and look very clean, the puzzle grid is easy to see, and the completed pictures are pixelated in an enjoyable way. There isn’t really much in the sound department, except for some bleeps and bloops as you are filling in the grid. There is a little tune that plays as you are working on the puzzle, but I turned it off because it got old quickly. The game is presented with NES-style retro graphics and similarly retro chiptune music. It’s just… fine. In the end, knowing the premise of the game and looking at a few screenshots, it should be easy enough to discern whether or not this sort of game interests you. In my eyes, Block-A-Pix Deluxe makes for a nice, easygoing, bite-size puzzle game that seems like it would be a good time-waster, especially if you’re bringing the Switch with you on the bus or in a waiting room. With all the praise I am giving this game, one negative is that replay value is questionable. Some people will want to beat their times. Others may only want to play the puzzle once before moving on. I myself don’t really care to beat my original times. II can still see myself revisiting the puzzles now and then, just because the game is relaxing! - First you will need YUZU Emulator. Download it. Open it in WinRar, 7ZIP idk and then move the contents in a folder and open the yuzu.exe.
- There click Emulation -> Configure -> System -> Profile Then press on Add and make a new profile, then close yuzu
- Inside of yuzu click File -> Open yuzu folder. This will open the yuzu configuration folder inside of explorer.
- Create a folder called "keys" and copy the key you got from here and paste it in the folder.
- For settings open yuzu up Emulation -> Configure -> Graphics, Select OpenGL and set it to Vulkan or OpenGL. (Vulkan seems to be a bit bad atm) Then go to Controls and press Single Player and set it to custom
- Then Press Configure and set Player 1 to Pro Controller if you have a controller/keyboard and to Joycons if Joycons. Press Configure and press the exact buttons on your controller After you're done press Okay and continue to the next step.
- Download any ROM you want from Romslab. After you got your File (can be .xci or .nsp) create a folder somewhere on your PC and in that folder create another folder for your game.
- After that double-click into yuzu and select the folder you put your game folder in.
- Lastly double click on the game and enjoy it.
NOTE: Some games may not run in Yuzu emulator, therefore you may use Ryujinx.
