Donut Dodo Switch NSP Free Download Romslab When we learned about a retro-styled game featuring a dodo as the primary antagonist, we just had to check it out. What could be a more appropriate game to cover for Retro Dodo? That’s right – it’s time to take a look at our official Donut Dodo review! Donut Dodo is a throwback to early arcade platformers. You know the type: games such as Donkey Kong (and its sequels), Burger Time or the original Mario Bros (some of which feature on our very own list of the best arcade games!). They’re the kinds of games you can pick up and play immediately, without any need for a manual, cutscenes or any kind of story-based justification for what’s going on. ROMSLAB.COM Best Switch Games

Gameplay is fast and furious, the objective is simple and obvious, high score chasing provides much of the sense of achievement and, oh yeah, the most important thing: absolutely everything can kill you. There are three modes to choose from: Easy-Medium (Two Rounds), Medium-Hard (Two Rounds), and Sugar Rush Speedrun (One Round). You will need to complete the game in Easy-Medium to unlock Medium-Hard. And once you complete the game in Medium-Hard, you’ll unlock Sugar Rush Speedrun. There are five different single-screen stages to complete, along with a bonus stage that can reward you with a bunch of extra points.
5 single-screen levels plus a bonus stage, each with their distinct game mechanics
For the first two aforementioned options, you’ll have to complete two rounds of the five stages that the game has to offer, as well as the one bonus stage as you use a giant pumpkin to bounce up and down while trying to collect all of the glowing donuts on offer before time runs out. Do this, and you’ll get a huge bump to your overall score while also taking a short break from the arcade-style action. This fiendish bird will fling projectiles at you and even when you do manage to collect the giant donut the nasty bird just ends up grabbing it and travelling to the next level anyway. The Dodo is not your only force of arcade nature to contend with. Levels are littered with hazards like spike pits and fireballs. There are also enemies such as green mice, which occupy just one platform and even the dreaded toilet which will stalk you until it gobbles you up into its porcelain bowl. Okay, that doesn’t actually happen which is a shame. If you die Billy sorta rotates on the spot and then instantly respawns at the start of the level with no load screen. This feels like a refreshing update from the arcade days. Well, thanks to Donut Dodo, I think I have a good idea what kind of thrill that must have been for those who came before me. Because, holy crap, this is one of the best indie games ever made!
Incredibly tight controls (no cheap deaths) for frantic single-player arcade gameplay
You play the role of a pastry chef who had his donuts stolen by a strabismus-eyed dodo. You know, that’s exactly what drove people to hunt them to extinction. True story, donuts and everything. As the chef, you have to zig-zag around five single-screen levels to get them back. Donut Dodo is purely an avoider-type platformer, as there’s no methods of attack and your only option is to not touch the baddies. So, what’s it like? Well, it’s kind of like Donkey Kong, as you have a giant animal trying to kill you indirectly, and various minions that get in the way. And it’s kind of like any collecting game like, say, Pac-Man, where the level is filled with donuts and the object is to collect them all. Offroad Night Racing Switch NSP

And it’s kind of like Bomb Jack, as you get a bonus for grabbing the donuts in a specific order. And it’s kind of like Donkey Kong Jr. where sometimes you’re climbing ropes/vines using the same method used in that game. And it’s kind of like the 1982 Popeye, as there’s a toilet seat that stalks you similar to how Bluto does in that game. And it’s kind of like.. you know what? Screw it. Name any game of this genre from the Golden Age and there’s probably some nod to it in Donut Dodo. If that makes it sound like something that couldn’t possibly stand on its own, think again. It’s this weird game that both somehow feels like every other single-screen platform game and also like nothing you’ve ever played before.
worldwide leaderboards, limited to 3-character initials, arcade style!
Given the gameplay loop for this one, the controls are simple and to the point. You must use the left analog stick or the D-Pad to run left and right as you press the A, B, X, or Y buttons to jump as needed. Some enemies you can jump over, while others will require you to avoid from a safe distance due to their height. Enemies have specific movement patterns, but you will need to be on high alert when playing in Medium-Hard or in Sugar Rush Speeedrun since enemies will be more plentiful and varied and will move at a faster pace. Along with the delicious donuts, there are also some bonus items to collect so that you can boost your overall score.

Said bonus items are cherries (1,000 points), strawberries (2,000 points), oranges (3,000 points), apples (4,000 points), bananas (5,000 points), and the all-mighty burger (worth a whopping 25,000 points!). Points are very important because, along with allowing you to climb up the leaderboard, they will also reward you with an extra life for every 15,000 points! In Donut Dodo, you play as chef Billy Burns, whose objective is to collect all of the donuts on a level, before then grabbing the massive donut and moving on to the next stage. At any point, one of the smaller donuts will be flashing. Collect that one next and you’ll get a decent bonus. Once Upon a Jester Switch NSP
