Agarest Senki — released in the West as Record of Agarest War — is a strategy role-playing game from Idea Factory and RED Entertainment that builds its entire campaign around a generational system. You don't follow one hero; you follow a bloodline. Each chapter hands you a new protagonist descended from the choices you made in the previous era, and the story stretches across centuries of an ongoing war. This page covers what the Switch NSP release includes, how the generational mechanics actually work, what you get in the 16 GB package, and how to get it running on your setup.

If you enjoy turn-based tactics with a heavy narrative layer, the game sits comfortably alongside other strategy-leaning Switch titles in our library — for a very different, faster-paced take on the genre, you can also look at 1 Catline Switch NSP Free Download.

What Agarest Senki Actually Is

Agarest Senki is a turn-based strategy RPG with a visual-novel layer. Combat plays out on grid-based battlefields where positioning, terrain, and character abilities decide the outcome far more than raw stats do. Between battles, you move through story sequences, build relationships with your party, and make choices that carry forward into the next generation. The result is a game that asks you to think about long-term consequences rather than just the next fight.

The Switch NSP release packages the base game together with the DLC content listed in the source data (version 1.7.3.0 + DLC). At 16 GB, it's a substantial download — plan for the space before you start, especially if you're storing it on a microSD card.

Key Features

• Generational progression: Play as successive heirs across multiple eras, with each generation shaped by the decisions and relationships of the one before it.
• Grid-based tactical combat: Turn-based battles that reward terrain use, careful positioning, and smart ability combinations over button-mashing.
• Branching narrative with multiple endings: Pivotal choices alter the story's direction, which gives the campaign genuine replay value.
• Relationship building: Bonds formed between characters influence both the story and the traits carried into the next generation.
• Distinct cast with individual backstories: Party members have their own motivations and personalities rather than functioning as interchangeable units.
• Detailed art direction: A blend of traditional fantasy aesthetics and modern character design across environments and portraits.
• DLC included: The package ships with the add-on content noted in the version listing.

How the Generational System Changes the Way You Play

Most RPGs ask you to optimize one character. Agarest Senki asks you to optimize a lineage. When a generation ends, the stats, skills, and relationship outcomes you built carry into the next protagonist. That means a decision you make in the first era can quietly determine whether your third-generation hero has access to a particular ability or alliance.

Practically, this changes your priorities. You'll find yourself weighing story choices against mechanical outcomes — picking a partner for narrative reasons might cost you a stat inheritance you wanted, and vice versa. The game doesn't hide this; it's the core tension. If you like systems that reward planning several hours ahead, this is the hook.

Combat: Where the Strategy Lives

Battles are turn-based and take place on a grid. Terrain matters, facing and positioning matter, and character abilities interact in ways that reward setup over improvisation. The difficulty curve assumes you're paying attention — you can't coast through encounters by over-leveling alone, because the tactical layer punishes poor placement regardless of stats.

That's also the honest limitation of the game: it is slow. Battles take time, story sequences take time, and the generational structure means you're committing to a long campaign. If you want quick sessions, this isn't built for that. If you want a tactics game you can sink dozens of hours into, the pacing works in its favor.

Pros & Cons

• Pros: A genuinely unusual generational structure that few RPGs attempt; tactical combat with real depth; branching outcomes that justify a second playthrough; a well-developed cast with distinct personalities; DLC bundled into the release.
• Cons: Slow overall pacing; the 16 GB download is large and needs free storage; the visual-novel segments won't appeal to players who want pure combat; the generational system can feel punishing if you make early choices you later regret.

Version Freshness and Package Details

The version listed for this release is 1.7.3.0 with DLC, in NSP format. That's the version string carried in the source listing, so treat it as the authoritative reference for what's in the package rather than an estimate. Because the file is delivered as a single large NSP, verify the download completes fully before you try to load it — partial downloads are the most common cause of load failures with files this size.

Developer attribution on this listing is Charlotte White. If you're comparing this package against other sources, check that the version string and file size match what's shown in the specs table above before assuming two downloads are equivalent.

Running It on Your System

The package targets Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS through Switch emulation. The source material includes a Yuzu-based setup path and notes that some games may not run correctly in Yuzu, in which case Ryujinx is the alternative. The listed minimum configuration in the source is a 64-bit OS (Windows 10 or macOS 10.15 Catalina), an Intel Core i7-7000 or AMD Ryzen 5 5600, 16 GB of RAM, a high-end GPU (RTX 3080-class or Radeon RX 6900 XT), 12 GB VRAM, and 5.55 GB of SSD storage for the emulator environment — separate from the 16 GB game file itself.

Those emulator requirements are demanding, and emulation performance varies by title and hardware. Keep expectations realistic: the game's own compatibility with a given emulator build is the deciding factor, not just whether your PC meets the spec sheet.

Add-ons (DLC): Agarest Senki Switch NSP

To add DLC or updates, place the .nsp file in the same folder as your game and load it through your emulator the same way you load the base title.

Who This Is For

Agarest Senki suits players who want a strategy RPG with narrative weight and don't mind a deliberate pace. If you're coming from faster tactics games, expect an adjustment period. If you've played other Idea Factory titles or enjoy visual-novel storytelling layered onto grid combat, the structure here will feel familiar and rewarding.
