Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection has previously released on the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One in 2016, and the collection features some of the most well-known games in the series. Every game in the series has received the same rating from the ESRB, and that isn’t likely to change any time soon. After all, the killing of people is an assassin’s job. The Nintendo Switch port of Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection should run well enough, given that the original games are over a decade old now. There might be a slight downgrade in the graphics of this remastered collection, but that remains to be seen. There are other Assassin’s Creed games on Switch that work decently on the console, so this should be no different. As of right now, Ubisoft has not made an announcement regarding the next mainline entry in the series, only announcing a speculated live service title called Assassin’s Creed Infinity last year, which has some fans skeptical.

What Games Are in the Ezio Collection for Switch?

The series used to have annual releases from 2009-2015 and then released four games from 2015-2020. If there is no Assassin’s Creed announced and released this year, it will mark the longest period of time between mainline releases in the franchise. Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection should do relatively well on the Switch given the appeal of portability, and the Assassin’s Creed games can be enjoyed in short bursts. While it is unlikely that more recent Assassin’s Creed games will make their way to the Switch, this collection should tie over those fans who are looking to dive back into Ezio’s world while they wait for the next mainline game in the series to release. Assassin’s Creed Infinity is speculated to be a shakeup to the series, perhaps even retconning certain parts of the story, so gamers will have to keep an eye out for the franchise’s future. When I played Assassin’s Creed III on the Switch, I completed everything. I got every last collectable. That’s ridiculous for two reasons: not only does it take ages to get all those collectables, but ACIII is also not very good. But with the ease of access to this world, the mindless collectathon that is most AC games is actually more enjoyable. I found a new love for a not-great game on Switch because of the console itself. And these games need to be reviewed with that in mind. This happened again with the Rebel collection, which features Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (a great game) and Assassin’s Creed Rogue (a better game than people say), both games which thrive on Switch. Sailing through endless seas is a wondrous experience on a portable.

It’s just so exciting. It’s the stuff I got excited about as a kid.

It’s why I picked up a PSP and GTA Liberty City Stories when I was still a pre-teen. It’s something I always wanted, but could never quite have. Now I do have it, and I couldn’t be happier. But has the gimmick worn off? Does that magic raise the Ezio collection to new heights? Do three of the most beloved AC games hold up? Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Colleciton includes three consecutive entries in the long-running series. First is the 2009 installment Assassin’s Creed II, which finds Ezio Auditore de Firenze doing stealth murders in Florence during the Italian Renaissance. Next up is the 2010 followup Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, which continues right where II left off. Now we find Ezio traveling to Rome to battle the Borgias. This installment adds some new ideas to the franchise, including the assassin’s guild, which lets you recruit assassins to do the dirty work for you at the press of a button. Finally, the you get the 2011 game Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. Once again, it picks up where the previous entry left off, bringing Ezio to Constantinople, where he gets involved in the the political turmoil of the time as his story (and that of several other characters) comes to an end. This game also introduces useful new combat mechanics, including bombs.

On top of all that, you also get all of the single-player DLCs from those games,

As well as two short films. You get two DLCs from Brotherhood (Copernicus Conspiracy and The Da Vinci Disappearance) and one from Revelations (The Lost Archive). The two short films are Assassin’s Creed Lineage and Assassin’s Creed Embers. The first Ezio game is quite difficult to go back to all these years later. It has a slow introduction, sometimes irritating parkour, and overall serves as an excellent reminder of how much better the Assassin’s Creed games have become. It still has a great, ridiculous story and some charming characters, but it all feels much older than I thought it would. As a very big fan of the games I’m more than happy to suffer through this, but I can feel Assassin’s Creed II’s age throughout. For The King Switch NSP

That’s not really a criticism, more a warning. The whole point of the collection is to play old games in a better form. Of course, playing a 13-year-old game will make you think of how far games have come. That’s how it works. This is still the same excellent game from 2009 that lets you explore a detailed recreation of Florence. And I think that’s its main selling point (the same applies for any early Assassin’s Creed game). Running around, ticking boxes, picking stuff up, fighting, running around some more… it’s all just wallpaper for the main event: the world and the story within it. So don’t worry, that’s still here.
