Rolling Sky 2 Switch NSP Free Download Romslab Rolling Sky 2 is a game all about movement combined with the power of an orchestra soundtrack in this unique runner. Your main goal is to reach the end of each song/level, avoiding pit falls, leaping from pillar to post and trying not to hit into any obstacles. You also don’t have freedom of movement: you can only move your character from left to right as running and jumping is all automatic. Each of the 12 stories evolve around different characters, each accompanied with their own unique soundtrack that evolves overtime during your run, creating a musical experience. During your run, if you hit into any obstacle or fall off a platform your run will end. However, don’t be disheartened as you can retry as many times as you like and there’s no penalty for doing so. There are a few checkpoints scattered throughout each level, and hitting these will allow you return to these points if you die. Also during each level you can collect blue and golden moons that are scattered throughout. Blue moons can be picked up straight away, however golden moons need to be collected a few pieces at a time before it becomes whole and you’re able to snag it. If you like collecting stuff and getting 100% completion for each level, you may enjoy the challenge in trying to collect all the available moons in each level which adds a little replayability to the mix. Each level expands and changes over time, and new areas will appear including new hazards, making for some pretty great set-pieces.
The challenge
Some of my favourites were the massive worm attack in Death Book or swinging from rope to rope through a harbour in Theft Prequel, which is pretty cool to see for the first time. However my favourite musical scores were from Pharaohs, Starry Dream and Ronin. I just wish there had been a juke box or music option where you could have just listened to Rolling Sky 2’s music, that would have been great… sadly there’s no option to do that. Each story has a single main character that you can control with two methods: either using the analog stick or motion controls on your controller. To be honest, I found the analog stick to be to twitchy which sent my character flying off platforms and crashing into obstacles all the time… However using the motion controls felt a lot better. You have to be gentle though when playing with the motion controls, small movements will do… but I found this control option far more effective than the physical set-up. Apart from normal difficulty, some stories have a hard difficulty and a more challenging nightmare difficulty to contend with. These will definitely challenge you. The only issue here is all stories are available from get go and there’s nothing I’ve seen that you can actual unlock in the game…unless you unlock something after collecting all the available moons that is. But I grew tired of the same levels after a few hours. I really loved the musical scores but levels became repetitive after a while, and I’d seen pretty much everything in my first hour of play.
Music to my ears
There was a time when almost every other game that came out on the App Store was a runner, but that’s simply not the case anymore. Or at least it hasn’t been for a while. It feels like the runner genre is trying to lay down some more roots, and one of the ways it’s doing that is through games like Rolling Sky 2: Rolling Dream. It might not have the most inspiring name in the world, but this is actually one of the best over-the-shoulder-leg-it games we’ve played in quite a while. And it’s not just because it’s really, really good looking. Sure, that’s part of it, but there’s enough going on here beneath the gorgeous graphics and slick sound to ensure that you’re going to be trying to make it through even the trickiest level in order to see what the game comes up with next. Every level here is different from the last in some subtle and not-so subtle ways. That’s because each level is built around a piece of music. Each of those tunes, as you might expect from the title, represents a dream that you’re running through – avoid the obstacles and get to the end. You control the direction you’re heading by sliding a finger left and right around the bottom of the screen. That’s the extent of the say you have over what’s happening, and while it might sound like it isn’t enough, the game uses the mechanic in a really intelligent way.For one thing, the levels rarely stay the same. One minute you might be soaring along on the back of an eagle, the next you’ll be weaving your way through bounce pads and deadly blocks.
Squish Machine review – “Rapid-fire platforming fun”
There are even more surprises waiting for you, and they all hope you’re not ready for them. The musical attributes of the game come into full swing pretty quickly – there’s a literal rhythm to the game that helps you keep track of what you should be doing, and more importantly, when you should be doing it. Then there are the levels themselves – they’re so different from one another that sometimes it feels like you’re playing multiple games. But the simplicity of the controls means you’re never challenged too much – although you are going to plunge to your death on multiple occasions. The variety can sometimes leave you frustrated, especially when a sneaky new mechanic creeps up on you, but for the most part it manages to keep things fresh and exciting. The extra visual interest – like coalescing platforms, a level set on the neck of a violin, and more – certainly doesn’t go amiss either. Rolling Sky 2: Rolling Dream needs you to keep moving forwards – that’s the deal that it makes. Get stuck, which is quite likely on some of the later levels, and you’re going to find yourself getting disgruntled. The simple mechanics are great, but when you need precision sometimes they can be a bit lacking. That’s not a major black mark, but it’s definitely something worth considering. This is a really interesting and fantastically well put together auto-runner, for sure, but in the end it is just another auto-runner. It’s a gorgeous, enjoyable auto-runner for the most part, but while its small changes might be enough to drag in fans of the genre, anyone else might find it a bit on the shallow side.
