Single player has a 6 stage story mode alongside an endless practice mode. If you have no friends to hand though, its survival mode that will challenge you most. Here you need to clear a certain number of matches before moving up a floor. Doing so brings tougher AI enemies and increased ball speed. Survival mode beat me repeatedly but helped me learn some of the tactics you can use against friends. It is great that puzzle battle games are still popping out and this is one worthy of your time. The game gives you a quick, to-the-point tutorial explaining the simple controls or mechanics, although it does encourage you to figure things out for yourself. You have two goals to defeat your opponent. Either clear your board entirely of all gems or crush your opponent gradually by sending more gems over to their screen. The former objective is the most desirable outcome as that has you win instantly. But depending on the skill of your opponent, this is not always easy to do. Three difficulties are available for AI opponents. As well as arcade and versus mode with a friend, you can play a survival mode, which has you last as long as you can against an AI opponent as the game gradually increases in difficulty.

If you select the Easy mode when you first start to play, you will probably beat all your opponents in less than an hour. When I started the game, I totally missed the main menu and jumped right into battle with no idea of what I was doing.

I was beaten a couple of times, but it lets you have a rematch without having to start over from the beginning of the roster. So if you want more of a challenge, start on one of the harder modes. The characters available are shown in a cute, cartoony style with bright colors. The menus have a Greek style with a font and borders that look like they are from a children’s mythology book. There is a nice mix of male and female characters to select from, but the developer’s choice of font color on this screen was questionable—they had Khaos the Chaos’ name in a dark blue that matched the color of the background.
