The Switch version of Gothic 2 comes with the Night of the Raven add-on, but you can’t play just the basic version of Gothic 2. I’ll tell you why this might not be good, especially for new players, and if the port is worth the price of around 30 euros.

Gothic 2 Complete Classic is like version 2.6 of The Night of the Raven. The Switch version has the same content as the PC version from about 20 years ago, but it’s in multiple languages. It includes the main part of the island of Khorinis, the port city, the smaller mine valley, the dragon island for the finale, and Jharkendar. This hidden valley expands Gothic 2 in the middle and can’t be played separately like many other add-ons. The Switch version is harder, especially with fewer modern features. There’s no checkpoint system, but you can save manually almost anytime. There’s a bug with Lares, an NPC, that can cause problems, and you might need to use a cheat mode to fix it. The Switch version has some bugs, but nothing too serious except for the Lares bug. There are sound bugs and times when I get stuck, but nothing major. Despite these issues, Gothic 2 on Switch looks good, especially in handheld mode. The handcrafted elements make it visually pleasing, and the design of the game world still makes it easy to get lost.
