GRADIUS ORIGINS Switch NSP Free Download Romslab For clarity, Gradius is a series built around a one-life clear, or as near enough as possible. Typically, dying in mid-to-late stages and being stripped of all power-ups is extremely difficult to come back from. Salamander, on the other hand, is a more immediately accessible spin-off series, replacing the cycling power-up menu with standard icon grabs that instantly enhance your craft. Salamander does away with checkpoints, allows you to grab Option pods and weaponry back after death, and showboated back in 1985 with a wealth of awesome digitised speech. Here, M2 have provided optional in-game subtitles for this, too, present at the foot of the screen. Perhaps Salamander’s salient gimmick, and now a series staple, is that it switches dynamically between horizontal and vertical stages, prompting you to “go up” after the stage one boss. It also heralds the introduction of the Lord British ship, accompanying Vic Viper in the player two position. For those not aware, the Gradius series is considered to be one of the most important and influential of all shoot ’em up games. Not only were they massively successful in their era across both arcades and home consoles.
This collection features 18 versions across all 7 arcade titles in the series, including the first-ever appearance of Gradius III AM Show Version on home consoles.
They innovated many elements that became staples of the genre like having more control over your power-ups, mixing horizontal and vertical levels together, and just generally being extremely good games. Having more control over your power-ups adds so much strategy and complexity to the game even though it’s initially a simple concept. In most other shooters at the time, enemies would drop random capsules that might change your weapon, increase your speed, give you a shield, or something along those lines. But in Gradius, the menu at the bottom of the screen is static. Andro Dunos 2 Switch NSP

Let’s discuss the Salamander series which is also featured in GRADIUS ORIGINS. These games differentiate themselves from the Gradius games in 2 primary ways: first, the power-ups are implemented by simply picking them up and second, the stages alternate between horizontally and vertically scrolling. Oh, and the first SALAMANDER introduced cooperative multiplayer as opposed to having to take turns in the Gradius games which is an awesome addition. Although these games are a ton of fun, it must be said that the Salamander series in particular has many frustrating moments; specifically.
The new Training Mode lets you adjust settings like restart points, loop counts, and power-up statuses to help hone your skills to perfection.
Parts where enemies come from surprise places or walls close in as you’re trying to forge ahead so you’ll have to do a lot of memorising if you want to master these games. Holy hot darn; are they ever a lot of fun, though! So, which specific games are included? GRADIUS ORIGINS only features arcade games with GRADIUS, GRADIUS II: GOFER no Yabou, and GRADIUS III: Densetsu kara Shinwa e as well as SALAMANDER, SALAMANDER2, and the newly created SALAMANDER III. You also get LIFE FORCE which is an adaptation of the original SALAMANDER that features the power-up system from GRADIUS. Many of these games include variations such as prototypes. Regional versions, updated iterations, and demos which is excellent, especially for hardcore fans that can notice subtle differences. The quality of all of these games is outstanding, too, with incredible emulation and the core experiences have held up gorgeously, especially GRADIUS III and SALAMANDER2 which are phenomenal shoot ’em ups. I’m so thankful for the rewind function in this collection. I would have made exactly zero progress without it. But I’m a self-proclaimed scrub, this is nothing new. If you’re dedicated enough, you can absolutely beat all of these games with raw memorization and amazing reflexes.
A variety of helpful new features have been added to the games, including save states, a rewind feature, and Invincible Mode.
But the fact that you don’t have to is awesome. For old men like me who just want to take a kind of museum tour through the sights and sounds of Gradius, the rewind button is indispensable. While the Gradius Origins collection is only six games, there’s also a host of alternate versions to explore. I recognize that not everyone will care about such things. But it’s a fascinating decision regardless. Because for a certain subset of hardcore fans, this collection is an absolute treasure trove of titles. You’ve got Japanese versions, game expo editions, and rare arcade variants.

If you’re a diehard Gradius or Salamander fan, this is a peerless assembly of unusual items. Of course, there’s also the gallery section, which is quite extensive. You can find stage sketches, character art, instructional diagrams, and promo flyers. The music gallery is equally huge. Some games even have a long list of unused tracks, which you rarely see in collections like this. It’s a great diversion for anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the history of these games. Early prototypes and trade show-only builds make an appearance, offering something truly special for collectors and preservationists. Ancient Weapon Holly Switch NSP
