Jurassic World – 2015’s revival starring Mario Chris Pratt – had nowhere near the same impact, though both critics and audiences found it to be a passable popcorn action thriller (and the less said about the other two films in the World trilogy, the better). Originally developed as a VR title for the Oculus Quest and now rejigged and ported to the Nintendo Switch — with the ‘Part 2’ DLC content included. ROMSLAB.COM Best Switch Games

Jurassic Park Aftermath Collection picks up two years after the events of Jurassic World but takes after the original film thematically. The opening moments introduce you to the voice of Dr. Amelia ‘Mia’ Everett – you never actually see other humans as all dialogue comes through radio. Taking control of a voiceless security expert named Sam, it isn’t long before the rickety plane you’re on experiences some winged-dinosaur-related issues which cause the pilots to lose control and crash land on the infamous Isla Nublar. Mia, you see, hired you to help her retrieve her life’s work as a geneticist. The crash left her with a shattered leg, holed up in a bunker somewhere.
Set between Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
From there, she feeds you information to help save both your lives. The story is filled in with various audio logs and conversations with Henry Wu, that once sweet scientist-turned cartoon villain we see in the World franchise, as well as some fan service from the wonderful Ian Malcolm AKA Jeff Goldblum. It’s a fairly paint-by-numbers plot, filled with typical jump scares and tropes seen throughout the six movies, but they’re executed fairly well. Playing on Switch, it’s clear how they would have worked infinitely better in VR, especially when you’re hiding from the velociraptors. METALLIC CHILD Switch NSP

That’s pretty much what you’ll spend most of your time doing, and while taking cues from games like Alien Isolation, it doesn’t quite maintain that level of terror. There are some other familiar dinosaurs that pop up throughout, such as Nedry’s best pals, the Dilophosaurus, but the majority of your time will be spent evading the raptors. You can hide in cupboards, closets, lockers, and other containers to make sure they don’t find you, as well as distracting them by hacking into various electronics to take their attention away from you. It’s a neat idea, and it helps to give you some distance from them, but I often found it frustrating more than scary.
Gripping gameplay without the use of weapons
They are also pretty dumb as well. On multiple occasions I would hide just as they were right near me, as if I turned invisible the moment I crawled inside. I also found the pace of movement too slow even when running, which could have been improved upon since making the jump to Switch. On paper, this might not seem like too big a deal, but in practice, a game of hide-and-seek between with a couple of genetically-engineered dinos quickly loses its appeal, especially when the AI leaves a lot to be desired. The few dinosaurs you encounter look and sound exactly like they do on film, right down to the clack of the Raptor’s claws on the metal floor as they prowl the confines of the play space, but the illusion is quickly shattered. when you realize how heavily they rely on field-of-view mechanics when it comes to spotting you. If you aren’t directly in front of them, chances are you might not get spotted. This is a far cry from the relentless predators we’ve become accustomed to in the films. Instead of being portrayed as intelligent hunters, the Raptors are relegated to little more than guards on patrol that can be snuck around providing you can break line of sight, which does feel a little cheap to see them hamstrung. It is a sacrifice that is understandable when you consider Aftermath’s VR roots – transfer the cunning killers from the movies into a video game.
Use a variety of tools to solve a host of unique puzzles
It would quickly become a motion-sickness-inducing bloodbath – but by hindering them in this way it does take away some of the magic. Worse still, it robs you of the feeling that you are outsmarting them because, well, you aren’t. You’re playing a videogame, and these Raptors are confined by its rules, just as you are. Jurassic World Aftermath takes place after the events of Jurassic World and before Fallen Kingdom. You play as Sam who’s joined by Dr. Amelia Everett. You’re initially tasked to infiltrate the lab facilities on Isla Nublar – the setting for Jurassic World – and recover important documents.

Things go south instantly, thanks to some pesky Pterodactyls making your helicopter crash, but the mission is still the same. Find those documents and somehow escape. Sam is silent but you do have Laura Bailey’s Dr. Amelia Everett in your ear throughout. She plays the part emotively, ranged and engaging during the moment to moment gameplay. We do also have Jeff Goldblum and BD Wong reprising their roles; though neither of their stories play a huge part in Aftermath. This game definitely adds depth to BD Wong’s Dr. Henry Wu, fleshing out more of his personality than maybe the movies do. It gives Blue the Velociraptor somewhat of an origin story that’s tied to the characters within the game too. Monster Sanctuary Switch NSP
