Life is Strange: Before the Storm Remastered tells the emotionally real and compelling tale of a young woman, Chloe Price, who must help a new friend confront the secrets of her past, while struggling to rebuild her own life after loss. This Game may contain content not appropriate for all ages, and may not be appropriate for viewing at work, with cautions suggested for Violence, Blood, Sexual Themes, Strong Language, and Use of Drugs and Alcohol. As much as I love this game, you’re much better off playing the original. The sheer number of missing animations and other obvious glitches all throughout the game completely kill any kind of immersion you might have.
Remastered visuals across characters and environments
The fact that these still aren’t fixed FIVE MONTHS after release is honestly ridiculous. Also, calling this a “remastered” version is questionable in the first place. Sure, the character models got some extra polygons, but that just makes them look more out of place against the still incredibly low-res environment textures. At least the original version is still available, so if you’re looking to play this game do yourself a favour and just buy that. As it is now (and honestly, this long after the release, I wouldn’t hold my breath for it ever getting fixed) there is not a single way in which this version is better than the original game. It would have been bad enough to offer this as a free “upgrade” to owners of the original, but actually charging money for it is… well I’d like to call it a new low for the video game industry, but sadly it’s just what you’ve got to expect nowadays. I have played the original Before the Storm when it was still in chapters. This was my favorite in the Life is Strange series, still is! I was thrilled to see a re-release of this game, enhanced graphics , models etc. Although it still left me a bit disappointed…but not entirely. Here’s my review, spoiler-free. It’s been years since I’ve played the original, so jumping back into it again felt fresh.

Although remembering major key points in the plot were still lingering in my mind, and the anticipation of going through it again, re-experiencing what characters go through up until the point of the story’s climax. This was great to feel again, and especially years later now that I’m older, I kind of feel more connected to the characters by understanding their emotions better. And therefore I did make a few different choices than I did before in the original. It was also amazing to hear the music of Daughter again, which is also why it’s my favorite in the series! I see the dev team is trying their best to reshape the core game, but but it fails to do so with the numerous bugs and just…a lot of texture glitches, awkward lighting…. They’re working to fix these bugs, but overal it doesn’t feel like the game deserve this sort of touch, it doesn’t justify it as a remaster. (I also didn’t really notice much puzzle improvements) However, I did notice some of the animations being better and less soul-less, and the models look less like plastic figures. So overal, there IS improvement, but not enough to justify it a remaster entirely as I mentioned. Would you play this over the originals? Maybe, yes. For the small improvements like better textures and animation. But then again, the originals are pretty good already. But also if you really want to re-experience the story again with a few new additions, then it’s pretty nice still even if they’re small. Just hope they fix the bugs…
Graphics and Sound Quality
Either way, I’d personally wait for a sale. The game is good, this remaster, however, is not while most of the experience is enjoyable, over chapters 2 and 3 cutscenes were full of bugs, between chloe freezing, standing still in some bizarre angle or… every character in the cutscene being glitched and T-posing inside other characters, which can definitely ruin the experience for new players (which was my case, and it did stop me from being able to take some of these cutscenes seriously)The gameplay is similar to the original Life is Strange game in many ways, with a few improvements and refinements. Instead of taking photos this time around, Chloe draws graffiti. Also, Before the Storm features back talk challenges which are a nice addition, as it serves something fresh to the player.

The interaction is similar to similarly done games such as the Telltale games. There’s a lot of clickity clackity on the objects, with Chloe explaining it along the way. It’s a Life is Strange game, after all. However, the camera movement is a mess at times, but the overall gameplay stuff is very refined. I’ve had the same issues with camera movement in the original game, but I’m starting to believe that this is how the Unity engine handles camera movement. I’m in love with the new look of the interaction element. The W, S, A, and D icons for each interaction now match the controller layout. While the first game featured a mouse selection gameplay elements to interact with on-screen things. Overcooked! All You Can Eat PS5
