MagiCat Switch NSP Free Download MagiCat has you play as a cat who doesn’t speak English because… it’s a cat. Therefore, all of the cutscenes are narrated with dialogue consisting of various meows which is something that I’ve never seen in a game before. It’s incredibly funny and charming and let’s face it; if you’re playing a 2D platformer then you probably don’t care about its story anyway, right? To go along with this goofy premise, MagiCat’s visuals are full of colourful pixels that make for a vibrant and delightful journey. Watching our feline hero pounce through the various environments while taking on dozens of blob-like entities is a joy. Meanwhile, the simplistic chiptunes make the presentation even more charming although there aren’t any particularly catchy or memorable tracks. The effects are satisfying as you jump around and attack enemies and overall, MagiCat will definitely make you smile as you play.
Story
To the surprise of probably no one, MagiCat isn’t exactly heavy on story. At the beginning, you learn that a cat wizard has been robbed by some other animal and now has to get the stolen artifact-thingy back. This is all just window dressing for dropping players into an overworld reminiscent of Super Mario Bros. 3 or Super Mario World. The player’s goal is pretty simple: go to new levels, beat them, and collect stuff along the way. The game offers a very basic introduction to the mechanics, but for the most part players will have to figure things out on their own.Cotton Reboot! Switch XCI

To be fair, none of it is insanely complicated, especially for any veterans of Mario, but it definitely takes a little time to figure out just how this platformer stands apart from others like it. Take the stuff you collect. Most platformers have them, but this one has a few, and it takes a while to figure out what they do. First there’s the coins, which accumulate enough to give you cat lives (points accrued during each level also yield cat lives). The cat lives, in turn, allow players to respawn in-level or escape out of levels when needed.
Gameplay
MagiCat’s gameplay involves running, jumping, dashing, and attacking. I’m not sure what the attack actually is but it’s a projectile that travels in an arc before hopefully landing on a foe. As you progress through the stages, more mechanics get introduced that make the platforming much more challenging. There is a strong puzzle component as well where you have to figure out how to advance in certain sections. In the end, the tight controls combine with these cleverly designed stages to make one enjoyable adventure.Crash Bandicoot 4 It’s About Time Switch NSP

Speaking of stages, there is a ton of them in MagiCat’s campaign. Each one of the 63 levels features its own boss as well, believe it or not. These stages take place in different environments such as forests, caves, ice plains, deserts, and even levels made of chocolate! Every stage has optional collectibles including rubies as well as awards for completing it without taking damage, reviving, or dashing. The lives system is unique in that you spend more of them the more you die in a stage. For example, you may only pay two lives for continuing but if you keep perishing then you may end up paying 64. I thought cats only had 9 lives…
Graphics and sound
There’s no question that the game has a cute vibe to it, from the retro graphics and sound to the cutesy level design, but that belies a game that is pretty hard. This reviewer turned his 10-year-old and 6-year-old — both reasonably experienced gamers — loose on this game, and except for the earliest levels, they were unable to complete them without dying. To be fair, the game does allow you to replay earlier levels, which can let players accumulate lives and make finishing levels easier, but it’s also clear that this is a game more aimed for veteran core gamers.Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled Switch NSP

So what to make of MagiCat? It’s definitely a solid platformer with a lot of replay value, and at a cost that is very compelling. It’s also hard and it takes more time to figure the ins and outs than it really should. For players who love platformers and don’t want a game to hold their hands, this release covers everything needed. For those who want a simple, kid-friendly experience, this probably won’t do it.Crayon Shin-chan: Ora to Hakase no Natsuyasumi – Owaranai Nanokakan no Tabi Switch NSP
