Mamorukun ReCurse! Switch XCI Free Download Romslab Still, there isn’t a rewind option, which I know is controversial in the shmup community, but I’ve come to appreciate it for testing stage patterns. You do have access to all the continues you want, so starting from a down isn’t the worst thing that can happen. Other options allow you to change the screen resolution, and there’s even an option to use the twin-stick shooting controls or the original. The story mode of Mamorukun ReCurse isn’t something that I’d advise you to play first, only because it doesn’t really play by the same rules as the other modes. ROMSLAB.COM Best Switch Games

Characters in your party that you can cycle through, with each character having a different attack pattern. In a perfect run, you may understand the benefits of using a particular character during a part of the stage, but that all comes with practice. The weapons in this mode are fully powered, and you’ll just need to stay alive throughout the stages. Following boss fights, you’ll unlock a few funny skits of this isekai-esque story that is chaotic from beginning to end. Now, the tried and true mode, and the one I spent the most time in, was Arcade Mode, which is based on the original arcade release from 2008.
To save the Netherworld, you must purify the residents and prevent the gate to the Dark World from opening.
This mode allows you to select a stage following a very brief prologue. There’s a 5-minute timer to keep you moving, but you can defeat powerful enemies during a stage to get more time. Now, for all its quirks, Mamorukun ReCurse isn’t without frustration. The curse mechanic, while clever, can feel finicky when the screen is busier than Times Square on New Year’s. Collision boxes are tight, and sometimes I swear I died to bullets that barely grazed a pixel of my hitbox. Stages can also blend together after a while, with only bosses really standing out. And let’s be honest: if bullet-hell shooters aren’t your thing, this game isn’t going to convert you. It will chew you up, spit you out, and laugh while doing it. But here’s the thing—I kind of love it. There’s something refreshing about a game that knows exactly what it is and leans into it unapologetically. Mamorukun ReCurse is weird, challenging, and occasionally maddening, but it’s also a unique spin on a genre that doesn’t get nearly enough love on modern consoles. Sees our main character, Mamoru, isekai’d into the Netherworld, waking up with no idea who they are.
Thus, the battle of Mamorukun and the others, summoned to the Netherworld to return to their original world, begins.
Mamoru meets the other playable characters and a Shrine Maiden. She’s the one who brought the characters here, and she needs help to dispel a darkness taking over the netherrealm, saving the day and clearing the cast of their convenient amnesia. The story is told pretty much through the anime-style intro, conversations between stages, and each playable character’s ending. It’s a pretty basic and cliché plot for the genre, but as is often the case when it comes to shmups, the story is mostly window dressing. It gives enough of an excuse as to why anime characters are fighting cute. Splasher Switch NSP

Super deformed enemies in a colourful (and often quite beautiful) version of the afterlife. The story is a nice addition for those wanting a little more out of the genre, and for those who just want to score and dodge, it’s easily skippable to get you right to where you want to be. It’s never intrusive, just how I like it in my shmup! Differs quite a bit from the standard vertical Shmup template in that you have full control of how your “Ship” progresses through the stage, having much more in common with a twin-stick shooter than titles like the Cotton series, for example.
However, while cursed, you can’t shoot curse bullets, and once the curse ends, your power decreases.
You’ll be dodging bullets, fighting bosses, and scoring high as always, but you also have another much more looming foe throughout the stages: time. You get a 5-minute timer to get through each of the stages in the game, meaning you need to keep moving forward while also focusing on dodging incoming death. Taking down bigger enemies and bosses adds time, but you’ll be constantly pressured by the clock ticking down. There’s a delicate balancing act that is quite intimidating on your first couple of runs, but when it clicks it’s quite a fun challenge and really forces you to learn the routes of the game.

A little too much for you to take on, there is the Story Mode option which changes the game quite a bit. Instead of having “lives”, you get to play as each of the characters as your lives instead, and it forgoes the timer for a little more of a peaceful playthrough. Or at least as peaceful as a shmup can be anyway. If Story and Arcade are bowing down to your bullet hell expertise, there is also an “Arrange” mode called Netherworld Action Mode. This switches up all the bullet patterns, limits your party to 3 of the characters, and has a pre-chosen stage set rather than allowing you to choose. Splasher Switch NSP
