Rock ‘N Racing Off Road DX is a Top-Down Racing game in the same vein as arcade classics like Super Off-Road. Graphically, Rock ‘N Racing Off Road DX is a pretty unambitious game, featuring a fixed camera with simple 3D racers (that look like cheap toy trucks) on a simple 3D course. What’s here works well enough, but it’s not going to impress anyone, and the option to make the courses 3D even though the camera is fixed means that there’s completely unnecessary aliasing going on here. These visuals are paired with a forgettable energetic soundtrack, passable engine noises, and a strange, cheesy announcer, who says things like “kart your engines”. Unfortunately, while the graphics here may be passable, the gameplay doesn’t even come close.I found the controls for this game damn near impossible to wrangle with. It seemed like one moment the game would fight me when I was trying to turn my vehicle, and the next moment it would suddenly turn unrealistically quickly.
Often, my vehicle would start turning without any input from me.
I don’t think I’ve ever had to fight a Racing game for control over my own vehicle in the way I had to struggle with Rock ‘N Racing Off Road DX, which doesn’t just have terrible controls, it seems outright possessed. Under no circumstances should you subject yourself to this terrible game. Offroad Racing – Buggy X ATV X Moto is an Off-Road Arcade-style racing game released on PC in 2019 and ported to other platforms in 2020… but I would argue this game is even older than that. See, a while back I reviewed a Nintendo Switch game called ATV Drift & Tricks that was a great deal like this one. It shared many of this game’s flaws, featured the same drift-trick system, and the two even share some of the same tracks. KukkoroDays Switch NSP

Much as with ATV Drift & Tricks, the trick-boost system here is still superb and makes for a fun bit of multitasking while racing, requiring you to time button presses to gain a boost after landing a jump or trick. However, this time around, the gameplay is enhanced further by three different types of vehicles to choose from, and to the game’s credit all three of them feel noticeably different. Much as with the prior game, I find the gameplay here to be a delight, as are the game’s creative and memorable courses, although this time around I give this game a bit less credit for that as some of those courses are simply being recycled. In terms of improvements, this game does seem to have improved on one of my bigger criticisms of ATV Drift & Tricks, the visuals.
About Offroad Night Racing
While still not exactly great, this time around the framerates seem better (though not spectacular), and while there’s still pop-in, it’s not quite as bad. On the plus side, this game retains the good use of lighting its predecessor has. Unfortunately, the other major flaw of ATV Drift & Tricks remains here – the complete lack of any sort of multiplayer. Those who read my game reviews will note that I consider this a severe flaw in almost any racing game, and it’s no less disappointing here. In the end, I would say that Offroad Racing is an improvement over ATV Drift & Tricks, albeit a marginal one. This game adds new vehicles and seems to have stabilized the visuals somewhat, but the visuals still aren’t fantastic, and the lack of multiplayer is still disappointing. KUNAI Switch NSP

This original offroad game was designed with excitement and adventure in mind.
Forget about simple, one-way tracks that limit your inventiveness and imagination. Here the way you achieve your goal is not important as long as you do it quickly and efficiently. Check your surroundings, use the tools available to you and start exploring! Find the next navigation point you have to reach or a specific place you have to investigate and try to reach it as fast as possible. I don’t know what this game is trying to be; Rock ‘n Roll Racing or Super Off Road for the modern generation, either way, it doesn’t nail either and gets so much wrong on the way there. I’d love to say that the psuedo isometric racer screams round corners.

I’d also like to say that it’s an ideal arcade racing game for solo play and for when your friends pile round on a Friday night. I can’t do either. What Rock ‘N Racing Off Road DX actually is, is a clunky racing game that causes more frustration than it’s really worth. There’s the usual fare; grand prix modes and multiplayer, but neither of them particularly set the world alight. The tracks are lifeless, the cars are pretty much cookie cutter replications of the stereotypes often found in budget racers. There isn’t a huge amount to discern between each vehicle, to be honest. Sure, there are jumps that are meant to be exciting – they aren’t. There are tight corners that would be amazing could you drift around them with flair – you can’t. KungFu Kickball Switch NSP
