Chasing Static Switch NSP Free Download Romslab While playing Chasing Static I couldn’t stop thinking of Penumbra, the 2006 tech demo that put Frictional Games on the map. Penumbra is little more than a historical footnote now, overshadowed by its commercially released namesake and the studio’s later successes, but that freeware proof-of-concept paved the way for such classics as SOMA and the Amnesia series. In one sense the parallels with Chasing Static are clear: this, too, is a small-scale, concept-heavy journey to a dark, unfriendly place, the work of independent developers who understand how to create a palpable sense of interactive dread. That said, there’s another, less flattering connection one could draw: both are short, do more to showcase their ideas and mechanics than to tell a satisfying story, and neither feels like a full and rewarding game. The difference, of course, is that Penumbra was a free demo, and accomplished what it did within that framework; Chasing Static, on the other hand, positions itself as a complete experience, and despite its strengths it doesn’t quite deliver one. Chasing Static casts you as Chris Selwood, a young man traveling by car through rural Wales.
Audio driven gameplay mechanics have you hunting anomalies with an experimental Frequency Displacement Monitoring Device.
Developed by Bristol, UK-based developer Headware Games, Chasing Static is a lo-fi love letter to the survival horror titles of the PlayStation era. It features irresistible 32-bit style visuals and a surprisingly cerebral story centered around themes like shadowy government agencies, strange experiments, and deep-seated trauma. It’s a solid foundation, to be sure, and one that’s bound to appeal to players who cut their teeth on such classics as Silent Hill and Resident Evil in their heyday. However, you shouldn’t take this pixelated fright-fest at face value. The Jackbox Party Pack 8 Switch

While Chasing Static undoubtedly looks the part of a bona fide relic of the pioneering days of the survival horror genre, it’s very much its own thing. You won’t find any ghoulies out to grab you. And jump scares—the horror genre’s bread and butter—are surprisingly minimal. Instead, Chasing Static is all about the underlying narrative and immersing you in its foreboding world. If you’re in the mood for a two-hour ghost story with some killer presentation, it’ll undoubtedly scratch that itch. However, those looking for something more traditional may find themselves lost in all the white noise.
Crunchy low poly visuals reminiscent of PS1 classics with full voice acting, high quality sound design and a modern approach to gameplay.
Not wanting to chance a vicious thunderstorm in his battered station wagon, he pulls into a roadside cafe to wait for the weather to clear. Chris is just settling in for some coffee and conversation with a friendly waitress when the power cuts out and everything turns to chaos; the waitress is attacked by something horrific with glowing eyes, and before Chris can react he blacks out. Everything is different when he wakes back up: the cafe seems musty and abandoned, as if no one’s been there for years, and there’s no sign of anyone or anything else. Totally at a loss as to what’s going on or what to do and stranded by his creaky vehicle, Chris sets off into the nearby countryside to look for help. Instead he discovers a seemingly abandoned research facility, where the last remaining scientist makes contact via radio to inform him he’s in great danger. This whole region, it turns out, is home to a strange energy field that can take hold of a person’s mind, alter their perception of reality and ultimately drive them to violent madness. Unfortunately for everyone who was stationed here, the machinery they used to hold the force at bay broke down, with your remote guide the sole survivor of the resulting catastrophe.
Explore the world of Chasing Static at your own pace, uncovering it’s secrets in any order you please.
Chasing Static puts players in control of Chris Selwood. When Chris’ father dies, he makes his way to rural North Wales to settle his affairs. But, after he pulls into a diner on a rainy night to wait out a heavy storm, things take a turn for the worse. The power suddenly goes out, and an ominous figure attacks the kindly waitress you were talking to just moments before, pinning her to the ceiling in a gruesome scene fit for Nightmare on Elm Street. Next thing you know, Chris awakens, seemingly in another time. The once-cozy diner is now in shambles, and the colorful confections that once adorned the counter display case have gone moldy.

What follows is a roughly two-hour journey into the sleepy town of Hearth and its surrounding area as you investigate a series of anomalies and uncover the village’s sinister secrets. Chasing Static‘s most unique feature is its focus on sonic exploration. No, I don’t mean dropping acid and losing yourself to Frank Zappa’s transcendental 1969 album “Hot Rats.” Early in the game, you’ll come across an abandoned military bunker where you’ll find a tool called the Frequency Displacement Monitoring Device. The FDMD is an experimental directional microphone that allows you to tune into frequencies invisible to regular radios. TAITO MILESTONES Switch NSP
