Battle enemy fighters in mid-air dogfights using a machine gun or two different types of missiles. Equipped for machine-gun and two type of missiles winning won’t come easy!Warplanes: WW2 Dogfight is an action game in which you pilot World War II-era aircraft. It’s a battle-driven flight simulator on the surface, but the real fun seems to be back at the base, where you run the show behind the scenes. None of this is obvious from the title but I was pleasantly surprised by its overall depth. ROMSLAB.COM Best Switch Games

The most enjoyable aspect of this game is the vast number of options you’re given. Right from the start, you can choose from three countries – Great Britain, USSR, or Germany. The tutorial is great at getting you into the pilot’s seat and ready for action. From here, you can select which plane to use, which pilot to use, which skills to upgrade, and which missions to complete. I’ve been a fan of old school flight action titles, or dog fighters as we called them as kids since I was a kid. Games like Star Wars: X-Wing and Wing Commander solidified my love for that classic dog fight style of combat, the hit and run tactics and the white knuckle manoeuvres to outwit and out fly your enemies.
Dogfight is an easy to play yet realistic airplane fight simulator where the goal is to destroy the enemies in a limited time.
As I grew up games like Star Fox 64 and Star Wars: Alliance would further influence that love for the genre. In recent years I’ve started to see a resurgence of that old school approach to flight games and have to confess that I was a bit giddy at the chance to dive into Home Net Games’ action flight title WarPlanes: WW2 Dogfight. After a few days of navigating the skies, taking on waves of enemy planes and performing bombing runs on enemy AA emplacements it’s safe to say that my love for all things dog fight is still flying high. So without further ado, grab that coffee, kick back and enjoy our review of Home Net Games’ WarPlanes: WW2 Dogfight on Nintendo Switch. Starlink: Battle For Atlas Switch

As the title suggests, WarPlanes is set during the height of World War 2. To be honest the game really uses WW2 as more of a set piece to justify the over 30 historical planes that are available to the player. With some of the best planes from the RAF, Luftwaffe and Soviet Air Force at your fingertips, WW2 Dogfight has a lot of options for you to try out, level up and fall in love with. Although the game does boast multiple campaigns for you to play through the story takes a backseat to the real focus, player progression. The first major system comes in the form of the planes.
Dogfight above stunning realistic desert or mountain enviroments in three different levels of play, (easy, medium or hard).
Each of the 30 plus planes offers multiple upgrades, customizations and paint jobs allowing you to build your plane up just the way you like it. Missions act as a way of gaining currency which is then spent on the aforementioned options for progression systems. With four basic mission types, each rewarding its own currency, which in turn can be used for the various upgrading options on the planes. The second major progression system comes in the form of pilot recruitment. As the squadron leader, you are tasked with hiring and training pilots to assign to your ever-growing collection of planes. Each pilot can focus in on a specific set of skills to help bolster the stats of a particular type of plane. The third progression system comes in the form of your home base which has to be managed and upgraded as you play through the game. Players must manage daily costs of operation, repairs to planes and fuel consumption to make sure that everything runs smoothly. You have two currencies in play for base management, silver and gold. Silver is used for repairing planes, keeping the base running, training pilot skills whereas gold is used to buy planes and some pilots. Both currencies are also used to upgrade the base structures like workshops and hangars, as well as defences such as AA guns.
Equipped for machine-gun and two type of missiles winning won’t come easy!
While you can earn skills by getting prestige points to lower costs there is a grind in being able to unlock new planes or to upgrade the ones you have. This may be linked to the game’s mobile heritage where it is a free to play title, though the visuals are decent, with plane designs distinct from each other, and markings appearing correctly. You can even customise your plane style if you wish. The gameplay itself is relatively simple and has made the jump to Switch really well. Flight controls are simple to pick up as is the aiming. You have the option to hold the aim button to lock on to enemies once they’re in range and fire at them to take them down quickly.

If you want more of a challenge you can turn aim assist off. Switching between planes in the squadron requires a simple press of the d-pad while issuing orders is simply opening the menu and selecting an icon. The UI is easy to read and intuitive enough you won’t get stuck with what signs mean. Each of the nations has voiceovers in their native languages and the line delivery is generally good, if a little bit hammy in some instances. After a brief introduction we will be catapulted into those days, as the leader of an elite team. We will be able to use British (RAF), Soviet (BBC) or German (Lutwaffe) vehicles, in three distinct but identical campaigns in terms of gameplay. Swoon! Earth Escape Switch NSP
