In this game you’ll join space faring pilots Cassie and Fay, the spunky sisters with all the sibling rivalry included on an intergalactic adventure to rescue their grandfather from the menacing organization, Eclipse. You’ll command your own ship, and with my Minnesotan upbringing, I aptly named mine the Tater Tot Hotdish to ensure I was in line with the plethora of potato puns!

When I played the Holy Potatoes franchise for the first time, I wasn’t really sure what to expect. The style seemed a little off the wall and the hook didn’t pull me in from the get-go. Man, how naive I was. Those initial impressions took a turn in a whole other direction as I quickly became engaged with the shop management tools provided. In addition, the dialogue was legitimately funny and there was just tons to do. So when I got the chance to jump into the series again, how could I refuse? Luckily, they chose exactly the gameplay loop I could find myself heavily invested in. Holy Potatoes! We’re In Space?! sees you following the trail of grandfather Jiji. In your spaceship, you search for any signs of him after his clash with the evil Eclipse. You certainly don’t have to do it alone as a ragtag team of friends are ready to provide assistance. Cassie, Fay, and the rest of the crew bring a lot of humor to the table as you go from galaxy to galaxy.

Story

The story centers around a certain Captain Cassie, on the run from the powerful Eclipse, and her crew as they search the galaxy in hopes of finding her grandfather Jiji… or something along those lines at least. You’ll be jumping from galaxy to galaxy, exploring and completing objectives, developing your crew, improving your ship, and always trying to stay a few steps ahead of the Eclipse, who are always on your tail. Throw in an odd assortment of characters you’ll meet along the way, random events, and quite a lot of shipt-to-ship combat and you get a general idea of what to expect. Sonic Mania Plus Switch NSP

While you’ll certainly need to keep focused on the objectives in each galaxy that doesn’t mean there isn’t room to do your own thing and explore a bit. As you find and collect resources, blueprints, and opportunities to add crew members you begin to have numerous choices put in front of you. Do you throw your money and resources into weapons? Do you focus on developing very specific traits in your crew or try to diversify in the hopes of discovering new helpful abilities? Once you’ve crippled your enemies in combat do you let them pay you off to spare them or simply blow them out of the sky?

Weapons are destroyed

If all of your weapons are destroyed, you become defenceless and will be given the choice to either run from the battle or offer the enemy some money in exchange for letting you go. Offering money guarantees your escape, while trying to run won’t always work and may result in you getting blown up and receiving a game over. If that happens, then you’ll have to load an earlier save, which will mean some lost progress. Holy Potatoes’ writing is well written and often humorous, and features many references to popular culture. This includes appearances by many characters who are parodies of characters from other media, including Doctor Who, Sherlock, Barbie, and One Punch Man. The story is reasonably easy to follow, and there’s even a couple of twists thrown in to keep things interesting.
