Its screen wishing him Happy Birthday and prompting him to make a wish. So, make a wish, he does, and he’s suddenly travelled back in time, meeting a young woman who he later realises is his mother. They begin to connect over her interest in photography, but alas, it isn’t long before he returns to his present life after taking a nap again. I wonder what kind of nostalgic statement is being made here? A completely pure remake of an arcade and SNES game that are more folklore than fact. With kinetic visual novels being some of my favorites and the extreme amount of patience needed in order to get through the entirety of a visual novel, the fact that Once Again takes a similar but different approach should gel with my own core tenants. RB Wolf, the developer, has presented an intriguing sentiment: a boy who lost his mother at a young age suddenly finds that he can see snapshots of her on his birthday.  Not just sudden images, but actual, honest-to-goodness time rifts where he appears to be with his mother in some long distant place.
