Swords & Bones 2 Switch NSP is the direct sequel to SEEP's retro-inspired action platformer, and it picks up right where the first chapter left off — with more levels, more enemies, more magic, and a roster of bosses that will push your reflexes. You step into the boots of Princess Berenice, the sole survivor of a poisoned city, and set out to bring the light back to the kingdom of Gaudia. If you enjoyed the first game's 16-bit aesthetic and Castlevania-style pacing, this follow-up keeps that identity intact while adding a shield-based parry system that changes how you approach combat.

This page covers the NSP release, what's new in the sequel, the practical details you need before downloading, and the tradeoffs worth knowing about. You can grab the base game file using the button below.

What Swords & Bones 2 Brings to the Table

The premise is straightforward: every 500 years the Demon World invades the human realm. In the first game, the Wolf Demon struck the kingdom of Vestus. This time the Scythe Demon takes his turn, and he doesn't bother with a slow siege. From the Palace of Evil he spawns monsters into the streets, then poisons the water supply of the wealthy city of Gaudia to wipe out its citizens in one move. Princess Berenice survives only because the sacred family relic, the Trophy of Heroes, shields her. Her quest is revenge, and yours is to guide her through it.

The narrative setup is delivered in a short intro, and after that the game mostly steps back. Boss encounters serve as the main story beats, briefly introducing the next area before throwing you back into the action. That keeps the pace tight, though players who want a deeper plot should know up front that the story is light. The focus here is on stage-by-stage combat and platforming, not cutscene-heavy storytelling.

Key Features

• Shield and parry mechanic: Berenice carries a shield that can absorb a hit or two, and the new parry system rewards well-timed defense rather than constant dodging.
• Upgradeable shields: Beyond the starting wooden shield, you can buy sturdier shields that withstand more punishment.
• Four new devastating spells: The sequel expands the magic system with four new spells to master, covering offensive attacks and regeneration.
• Shop-driven progression: Coins collected in each stage can be spent on health and mana upgrades, the double jump, keys for treasure and spells, and more.
• New levels, enemies, and bosses: Each biome has its own setting and enemy set that fits the scenery, capped by boss fights.
• 16-bit visual style: Hand-drawn assets appear in story segments and the shop, while gameplay uses 16-bit-inspired graphics with polished animations.
• Classic inspiration: Designed in the spirit of Castlevania and Wonder Boy in Monster Land.

How the Gameplay Actually Feels

On the surface, Swords & Bones 2 looks simple. Stages are brief, attacks are basic, platforming is readable, and spells are mapped to a small set of inputs. The difficulty comes from enemy attack patterns that can feel harsh early on, especially when your hero can't strike back fast enough to interrupt a group. The second area's birds are a good example: three charge at once, and without an attack that hits all of them, some health loss is hard to avoid. That's where the upgrade loop matters. Every stage drops loot you can spend in the shop, and the double jump in particular opens up optional platforms and hidden treasure routes once you unlock it.

Returning players will notice the gameplay is nearly identical to the first title, with the shield and parry as the main mechanical addition. That's a plus if you wanted more of the same, and a limitation if you were hoping for a full reinvention. The controls are easy to pick up, though the game doesn't explain the new shield mechanic in much detail — you'll figure it out quickly, but a short tutorial would have helped.

Pros & Cons

• Pros: Strong 16-bit art direction and animation; satisfying parry-based combat; clear upgrade loop with meaningful shop purchases; new spells and bosses keep the sequel from feeling like a rehash; short stages suit handheld play.
• Cons: Story is minimal after the intro; early enemy patterns can feel punishing; gameplay is very close to the first game; the new shield mechanic isn't explained well in-game.

Version Freshness and What to Expect

This listing reflects the latest NSP release of Swords & Bones 2 as described in the source material. The game ships in NSP format, which is the standard installable package for Switch titles and works with emulators such as Yuzu and Ryujinx. The input does not include a changelog or a confirmed version number, so the version field above is marked as estimated rather than invented. There are no confirmed DLC add-ons listed for this release — the add-ons table in the source shows only the base game in NSP format, with the remaining slots empty.

Publisher details are limited to the developer credit: Charlotte White. If you need to verify compatibility before committing to a 12 GB download, check the emulator documentation for your platform first, since some titles run better on one emulator than another.

Installation Guidance

Because this is an NSP file rather than a Windows executable, installation depends on your setup. On a modded Switch, you install the NSP through your usual title manager. On PC or Mac, you load it into a Switch emulator. The source material includes a step-by-step Yuzu guide, which is preserved below along with the original DLC/update instructions and the listed system requirements for emulation.

Yuzu Emulator Setup (from source)

1. Download the Yuzu emulator, extract it with WinRAR or 7-Zip, and open yuzu.exe.
2. Go to Emulation > Configure > System > Profile, press Add to create a new profile, then close Yuzu.
3. In Yuzu, click File > Open Yuzu Folder to open the configuration directory.
4. Create a folder named "keys" and place your key file inside it.
5. Under Emulation > Configure > Graphics, select OpenGL and set it to Vulkan or OpenGL. Then go to Controls, choose Single Player, and set it to Custom.
6. Press Configure and assign Player 1 to Pro Controller or Joycons, then map the buttons on your controller and press OK.
7. Create a folder for your game, place the .xci or .nsp file inside, then open that folder in Yuzu.
8. Double-click the game to launch it.

Note: Some games may not run in Yuzu, so you may need to use Ryujinx instead.

Adding DLC or Updates

Download the update or DLC file (usually .nsp), place it in the same game folder, then open Yuzu and follow the same load process used for the base game.

Who This Is For

Swords & Bones 2 suits players who grew up on 16-bit action platformers and want short, replayable stages with a clear upgrade path. It's also a reasonable pick for handheld sessions, since stages are brief and progress saves between runs. If you need a rich narrative or a complete mechanical overhaul from the first game, temper your expectations — the sequel refines rather than reinvents. For a different flavor of Switch content, our 1-2-Switch NSP page covers a very different multiplayer-focused experience.
