Rubber Duck Race Simulator Switch NSP Free Download Romslab The concept is strong, and a little like with Micro Machines, your duckies are tumbling around water parks in bathtubs (and, later, fruit juice, lava(?) and the Milky Way), and it all looks larger than life because everything’s from the ducks’ perspective. The game also has official licensing from Schnabels, and, honestly, the ducks do look good. Anyone that likes rubber ducks will appreciate the aesthetics and effort here. It’s budget, but authentic. Sadly all the effort seems to have been put into the visuals, because for a racing experience. ROMSLAB.COM Best Switch Games

Rubberduck Wave Racer just does not cut it. I actually booted up the N64 Online App to play that console’s Wave Race back-to-back with this. It’s not a good sign when an N64 game has better water physics, track design and AI than a game released in 2023. The AI is basically nonexistent. Once the “GO” whistle blows, all the AI ducks line up in a neat little line and float their way around the course. It frequently means they get stuck on scenery and pile up, and while I guess that is appropriate for a game about rubber ducks, it doesn’t make for the most compelling racing experience.
Different ducks will slowly and happily fall into the pool with you, each with their own style and demeanor.
Meanwhile, there are only 16 tracks, spaced across four courses, and for game modes, you’ve got single player, multiplayer (2-4 people), and single track race. With only 12 ducks to unlock (despite the sheer variety of rubber ducks out there), there’s really not much to the game and you’ll see it all within a play session or two. With the tracks being of very vanilla design, the general difficulty being quite low, and there being so little reward for playing, the replay value of Rubberduck Wave Racer is also shocking low for a kart racer. Even looking beyond Mario Kart, which is ridiculously large. Alien Invasion Switch NSP

This is still a genre where even the most modest efforts are meant to be good for a few dozen hours. In many ways, Rubberduck Wave Racer is everything you would hope it to be. It’s four-player locally (no online multiplayer, natch, but we suspect we wouldn’t be getting a game if it was included), with sixteen tracks that are all refreshingly different from each other. Those tracks are the basic template of a Mario Kart, allowing enough familiarity to creep in that anyone could pick up a pad and understand what they need to do. But the tracks have been flooded with water.
Here comes the night. Look at the stars. Turn off the radio, listen to the waves in the dark. Dream.
It’s through the eddies and currents of that liquid that Rubberduck Wave Racer feels original. At least, if you’re not old enough to be brought up on Wave Race 64 is the newest title in a long line of bare-bones racing games made by indie developers. This one comes to us from Joindots, which is the exact same company that gave us Renzo Racer in 2022 and Emoji Kart Racer earlier this year, two perfect examples of this trend. This Rubberduck game trades roads and karts for water and, well, rubber ducks. Although that’s not all that different from emojis, at least rubber ducks don’t make me cringe. That’s already a point in Wave Racer’s favor. The thing about rubber ducks is that they don’t come with any baggage or preconceived notions. Outside of them floating on water, you don’t have that many expectations when you think of rubber ducks. Does it make sense that a rubber duck can exceed fourty or fifty miles per hour? No, not really. But who cares? I can go with the idea of seeing different rubber ducks battle it out to come in first, especially if we’re treated to a bunch of zany levels and water-themed power-ups. In that sense, Rubberduck Wave Racer actually delivers.
Float on the water, sunbathe, dip your beak, go down the slide. The radio is playing a nostalgic tune.
Water-based stages, all of which look good and have some pretty obvious shortcuts. There’s actually a nice variety of locations in the game, ranging from stages themed around delicious desserts to a wish fountain to a waterpark full of cute alligators. We visit ancient temples, Middle East pyramids and even a spooky Halloween stage. And we’re just scratching the surface of all the fun locations you can race. The game also gives us a series of water-based items that we can deploy to fight against the competition. We’ll shoot mechanical fish at the other ducks, create devastating whirlpools and even unleash a deadly shark.

While there’s nothing especially unique or original about these items, I definitely appreciate that they modeled them around the theme. That’s one of the first things that most developers overlook. From this perspective, Rubberduck Wave Racer is already way ahead of the competition. It has cool levels, good looking graphics and weapons that actually play into the theme. Unfortunately, there’s just one problem – Rubberduck Wave Racer is no fun to play. These yellow ducks are slow, sluggish and hard to control, leading to one frustrating moment after another.
