Sega Ages Virtua Racing Switch NSP Free Download The Sega Ages series has quickly established itself as the premium name when it comes to retro gaming on the Switch. While each release is generally more expensive than other old-school offerings on the system, it’s worth it for the pristine emulation, the extreme attention to detail and the way developer M2 improves each game in a tasteful, relevant way that doesn’t mess too much with the spirit of the original title.ROMSLAB.COM BEST SWITCH GAMES

The seven Sega Ages games released to date have treaded fairly safe and familiar ground for the most part, covering games from the Mega Drive (Sonic, Thunder Force IV), Master System (Alex Kidd, Phantasy Star) and its earlier sprite-based arcade boards (Out Run, Gain Ground, Puyo Puyo). This eighth release is a biggie, though: Virtua Racing was the first game created for Sega’s Model 1 arcade board and was the company’s first attempt at a polygonal arcade game: had it failed, we may never have had Virtua Fighter, Virtua Cop, Virtua Tennis or the like.
This Switch port still sports that classic
Original look, but it’s all been overhauled. It looks sharp, and the game runs at 60FPS and is presented in 16:9 widescreen. The sound effects are somewhat limited, usually limited to “vrooms” as you pass opposing vehicles, along with the regular chant of “Time Bonus”, but the tunes are chirpy enough and change/respond to whichever lap you are on. One of the earliest forays into complex 3D style visuals (for the time), the game featured three different tracks to race on: Big Forest, Bay Bridge and Acropolis. All three represented a differing challenge, and all three have been reproduced here. You race across the track with the aim of getting first, but to also hit each check point; your timer accumulates for every one you pass. It IS possible to run out of time before the required number of laps is reached, which makes for part of the game’s challenge.
Graphics
The graphics may not be for everyone, but each track boasts its own look. Big Forest sports a fairground towards the end of the course, while Bay Bridge features a “Golden-Gate” style extravaganza. Acropolis looks very different to the other two, and has a very, very nasty hairpin in it. And all these tracks have a variety of scenery around you if you can stop long enough to admire it.Tony Hawks Pro Skater 1 Plus 2 Switch NSP

The standard, typical challenge will see you attempt to best the CPU across the aforementioned tracks and to set your best times. However, this version has also seen online multiplayer added, as well as support for eight racers on a single Switch console. Alas, I was unable to really test this out, but I did test the online, which, when it worked, was quite brilliant and enthralling, however I spend a huge amount of time waiting for opponents.
Timing is everything
Try as I did, I was never able to crack even the 50th position. All of this was a reminder that titles back in the day really were difficult. And here’s the thing — Virtua Racing does have the decency of including five difficulty levels: Easiest, Easy, Normal, Hard, and Hardest. Which do you think I played on the most? Yup — it was “Easiest.” These difficulty levels don’t seem to alter the AI behavior; the cars are fast and don’t crash regardless of which level you select. The only thing that changes is the countdown timer. On the “Easiest” setting, each checkpoint scattered around the track awards 15 seconds of extra time.Top Run Switch NSP

The whole racing experience is spread across two modes: Normal and Grand Prix. Normal races are five laps and Grand Prix races are a whopping 20. Each GP race takes an average of 15 minutes; however, the final and hardest track, Acropolis, clocked in at 20 minutes. I didn’t even complete it — I ran out of time on the 20th lap. So, again, don’t come into Virtua Racing expecting for it to be a cake walk.Toree 3D Switch NSP
