Wenjia Switch NSP Free Download Romslab a game that channels that Ori-vibe quite well, is one that I’ve enjoyed sinking some time into. Indeed it’s a short game, which brings its asking price into question, but when all is said and done, Wenjia offers a calm and soothing adventure that doesn’t demand too much from its players. The game throws you into the role of a kitten, one that has the ability to phase between the realm of matter and the realm of energy, a necessary mechanic that revolves around the game’s core plot. Here, however, is where one of my gripes pops up. ROMSLAB.COM Best Switch Games

Wenjia doesn’t do a great job at relaying its story to you. I found more weight from the official store listing than that of what the game was trying to sell me. The game centers around the world of Wenjia, and in this world sits a tranquil forest that’s since been disrupted by a large earthquake. At the heart of this earthquake sits a band of mountain spirits, many of which have been trapped by flows of surrounding lava. The few that escape manage to alert our feline protagonist and thus, the adventure of Wenjia follows suit.
The Child of Energy, who looks like a witch doctor combined with the final boss in Kirby Star Allies, protects the spirits from danger.
Taking control of the cat, players will need to maneuver through the game’s handful of levels in an attempt to save the trapped spirits from their fiery dooms. The unique ability to phase between the realm of matter and the realm of energy, allows the cat to access certain platforms or areas that are designated to that realm. This is achieved through the use of the bumper, and at the tap of a button, the realm in which the cat is situated in will immediately swap to the other – a mechanics that you’ll use throughout the journey, often. Which is the focus for most of the gameplay. Shifting between these two realms uncovers new platforms, portals, and currents of air that allow you to avoid falling to a spiky death below. Much of the skill needed is in remembering where these extra elements are located, as you must rely on leaping into the unknown to progress through the stages. While this is the only real mechanic utilised in Wenjia, it is by no means an easy or simplistic game. What starts off quite slow quickly becomes a more punishing experience when air currents are introduced as you must time these shifts between realms perfectly to avoid dying.
Travel freely between two worlds—the material world and the energy world—and face their unique challenges.
Luoriver Studios were smart to include a cooldown on this ability, too, as this stops you from just spamming L and hoping for the best. I have nothing but high praise for Wenjia’s art style. It is simply beautiful. The character designs draw on the style of Ori and the Blind Forest, but what really stood out to me was the background. These hand-painted scenes emphasise the contrast between the damaged, chaotic Energy Realm and the more tranquil Matter Realm, accompanied by a melancholic piano soundtrack urges the player on through the levels. It was this shocking contrast between the realms that gave me the motivation to continue onwards and free the spirits from their torments.

Wenjia is a traditional platformer that features huge levels teeming with secrets, adventure and peril. You play as a little white fox whose job it is to help out a bunch of rabbits, saving the forest itself from evil and chaos. I think that’s the jist of it anyways, as that’s about all I can fathom out from the story, but that’s all good because the visuals and adventure tell the tale without the need for massive cutscenes and lengthy pieces of dialogue. The gameplay is as simple as simple can get. You guide your white fox across the screen from left to right and you utilise a simple jump and a clever double jump.
Impressively bring to life both the vibrant colors of the material world and the surreal otherness of the energy world.
There aren’t any spins, or attacks, or dodges to worry about; it’s just that simple control system. You jump to avoid the hazards like spikes, pits of death or a huge flowing lava river that is following you at speed, hopping and skipping your way past any obstacle. But there is one other feature that separates this game from the other members of the pack… See, the entire game world of Wenjia consists of parallel light and dark realms. You can switch between the two worlds with the touch of the button, for example on one world everything is all colourful and light, while the other is ethereal and strange.

A few times in games recently, but it’s one that works really well here and is employed perfectly. You might have trouble reaching a ledge, but that is no problem as a simple switch between the worlds will ensure that there is something to jump on to. What the game does well is that it then uses this technique to really test the player’s ability to switch smoothly between the two worlds, ensuring that timing is essential. One level had me make my way through a tunnel with a spike on the top and bottom; in the ethereal world there was hot air that would lift the little fox in the air, whilst in the normal world, nothing.
