See, 120 years ago, a coalition of the three races of the goodies (Elf, Dwarf and Human) put an end to the rule of the Dragon Daemon Lord Kheel. The Humans ended up gaining the “Suzerainty”, which I have researched exhaustively and discovered to be “the right of a country to partly control another”. Obviously, the Elves and Dwarves don’t love this, and so seething resentment begins to grow. Fast forward to today, and the Dragon Daemon Lord has broken free, starting to lay waste to the world.

Presentation wise and Dragon Prana is a bit more of a hard sell. Having come fresh from the delights of Persona 5 Royal, with its lush graphical style, Dragon Prana has required something of a mental gear change. The graphics are almost 8-bit in their appearance, with all the characters being little more than piles of pixels arranged into vaguely humanoid shapes. The usual tropes are in place in regards to the monsters as well, with the same creatures appearing in different colours, and being treated as whole new enemies. So far, so KEMCO. The sound is okay as well, with pleasant enough music and sound effects to ensure that it does just enough to make playing it a not unpleasant experience. Upon slaying a tyrant Daemon king, the humans become a little too comfortable with their reign over the continent so the Elves and Dwarves begin to rise up.

You play as the human Albert who initially wants to fight in a tournament yet his goal unexpectedly shifts to saving the world; after all, he is the hero. He’s joined by another human Rufina who has great magic power, an Elven princess Vanessa who tends to be rather brazen, and a Dwarven warrior Randolf who is fierce in battle. Together, the cast is fun to get to know and each character offers a strong sense of individuality as you watch them encounter evil forces as well as goof around together. What makes the visuals truly stand out are the small details like how each character sprite is animated at 8 angles which makes them look much more fluid as they run around. Also, the fact that their current class is reflected on their sprite in battle is just awesome. I also enjoy the cute few-frame animations as you stand still or wander around and the environments often come to life thanks to things like fire flickers and water movement. It’s quite a lovely game. One of my favourite aspects of any RPG is character progression and thankfully, Dragon Prana features some truly rewarding systems in place. For starters, there are 9 distinct unlockable character classes that every party member can swap to.

The actual gameplay is standard fare as well, but with an added twist. It has all the usual tropes of these types of games: there is an overworld that you can run around on (or sail on the sea after a certain point) and in this overworld are dungeons, for want of a better word. Anyway, you are given a quest to go somewhere, fight your way to the end of the dungeon/location, before getting sent off to the next location. As you go you’ll come across random fights with creatures to take part in, and a little light grinding will usually pay off in the long run. The usual KEMCO difficulty spikes are all present and correct too, and luckily there are the usual pillars that allow you to summon three sets of monsters to fight.

These are a good place to level yourself enough to take down the bosses that await. The normal turn based options are here, with the ability to use a physical attack, a skill or magic attack, defend, use an item or run away. As is also usual in the KEMCO games – and there have been a few of them – it is possible to set up an almost AI-type behaviour and let the characters take on the fights themselves. This works pretty well, with the ability to choose whether to concentrate on attacking or being a support character, for instance. - First you will need YUZU Emulator. Download it. Open it in WinRar, 7ZIP idk and then move the contents in a folder and open the yuzu.exe.
- There click Emulation -> Configure -> System -> Profile Then press on Add and make a new profile, then close yuzu
- Inside of yuzu click File -> Open yuzu folder. This will open the yuzu configuration folder inside of explorer.
- Create a folder called "keys" and copy the key you got from here and paste it in the folder.
- For settings open yuzu up Emulation -> Configure -> Graphics, Select OpenGL and set it to Vulkan or OpenGL. (Vulkan seems to be a bit bad atm) Then go to Controls and press Single Player and set it to custom
- Then Press Configure and set Player 1 to Pro Controller if you have a controller/keyboard and to Joycons if Joycons. Press Configure and press the exact buttons on your controller After you're done press Okay and continue to the next step.
- Download any ROM you want from Romslab. After you got your File (can be .xci or .nsp) create a folder somewhere on your PC and in that folder create another folder for your game.
- After that double-click into yuzu and select the folder you put your game folder in.
- Lastly double click on the game and enjoy it.
NOTE: Some games may not run in Yuzu emulator, therefore you may use Ryujinx.
