Fighting Fantasy Legends Switch NSP Free Download Romslab I dabbled with the Fighting Fantasy books in my younger years, though I’d never say I played them *properly*. I was a bit too young to fully understand how things like combat and stats worked, so I’d happily ensure that my warrior would win battles with ease – just so I could progress through the story (and, of course, be a hero). After playing Fighting Fantasy Legends, a video game that’s based around the story and concept seen in a trilogy of these books, I regret not playing them as they were intended. I’ll admit from the get-go that Fighting Fantasy Legends isn’t going to appeal to all gamers thanks to its simple (and somewhat dated) setup, but I actually had a really good time on my dice-fuelled adventure. Fighting Fantasy Legends puts players in the role of an adventurer who is tasked with ridding the land of Allansia from all sorts of threats, including the Lord of the Undead, Warlocks, Dragons… you know… the type of threats you’d expect from a fantasy universe. This means venturing across the world map and visiting varied locales, with each giving the player the freedom to determine which direction they want to go and if they want to explore the points of interest within them. Be warned though: they’re also home to random events, each of which will challenge the player in different ways.
Thousands of choices as you play, making each game unique.
There’s gold to be won in varying ways too, which will allow players to barter with traders to get items or, on the flipside, get robbed in wacky circumstances. The life of an adventurer, eh? Anyone who is familiar with the books will have an idea of how the gameplay of Fighting Fantasy Legends works, with players picking one of three characters and assigning them stats. The stats are based upon skill, luck, and stamina: skill will determine your success in combat, luck will determine your success in the random events that occur in the world, whilst stamina represents your health points. You can add additional points to your skill and luck at the start of the game. Labyrinth Legend Switch NSP

Though this comes at the expense of your stamina – for every additional point you add to skill or luck, you lose a point of stamina. Even on mobile, we’ve seen a few different approaches to adapting these books. In the beginning, we received more or less straight adaptations of the gamebooks from Big Blue Bubble and then Tin Man Games. Then inkle broke everything open with their stunning take on the Sorcery! (.99) mini-series, transforming the gamebooks into a cross between a board game and a full-on RPG. Perhaps inspired by that effort, Tin Man recently released their own unique spin on the original Fighting Fantasy book, The Warlock of Firetop Mountain (.99).
Kill monsters and add them to your Creature Codex.
It maintained the decision-making of the books, changed the combat into a mini-TRPG system, and presented the whole thing like a board game complete with miniatures. Well, it’s a bit confusing, but now we have another developer in the mix. Nomad Games, the fine folks behind the iOS version of the classic board game Talisman (

They’ve clearly taken some cues from previous unorthodox efforts, but in a lot of ways, Fighting Fantasy Legends feels the most faithful to the source of this bunch. You’re presented with frequent choices that sometimes feel unfair in their outcomes. Your trips through each location feel like they’re on rails. You’ll need to roll the dice frequently to pass Skill and Luck Tests. And yet, there are also all sorts of new aspects that expand significantly on the original works. You’ll now gain experience and level up, increasing the effectiveness of your dice. Certain sections may be on rails, but you’re able to re-enter areas or go elsewhere at your whim.
Unlockable titles and achievements for completing challenges.
It leans closer to its gamebook roots than its cousins from Tin Man or inkle, but it also feels very much like a tabletop RPG game in the vein of Hero Quest. The outcome is a game that has the speedy pace of a choice-based gamebook combined with the sastisfying depth and fairer difficulty of an RPG. It took all of thirty seconds for me to fall in love with this particular mixture, and hours for me to actually make my way through its traps and adventures. Due to the inherent luck-based nature of the game, it is difficult. I’ve only played on normal difficulty and I’m still finding it tough. I even had to restart after trying multiple times to win gold to heal myself, only to lose to a dice roll.

It’s a shame that there wasn’t a lot I could do about it, but I guess it’s a game of a certain era. Games now require careful preparation and multiple avenues to success; it was quite a shock to the system when I couldn’t do as such. However, there is choice in the game, in the form of dialogue options. Again, if you didn’t grow up with this style of game, you might be surprised by the not-quite-as-robust nature of the choices, but they’re there. What’s nice is that the quirky story carries on to these options. For example, it turns out while in a discussion with a woman in the game, replying that you are a tax collector is better than being a florist. Of course, it didn’t help that the woman was Medusa.
