Psikyo Shooting Stars Bravo Switch NSP Free Download Romslab Just as Psikyo Shooting Stars Bravo is the companion game to the earlier release of Psikyo Shooting Stars Alpha, what you’re reading now should also be considered the companion to our earlier review of the latter title. We suggest, to help digest the full context of this review, that the reader also hop over and read this companion piece before proceeding any further, as both games share the same issues and flaws in terms of emulation quality. To recap, The strengths of the new City Connection Psikyo ports are the fair price points, amounts of titles on offer, and quality of the games themselves. Psikyo Shooting Stars Bravo mostly retains these same advantages as Psikyo Shooting Stars Alpha, though it is debatable if the game library holds up as well overall. ROMSLAB.COM Best Switch Games

Since the weaknesses of these ports are shared – problems like high input lag, lack of extras, no stage select or training options, and just being carbon copy re-releases of the ZeroDiv ports – will not be the focus of this review. Rather, we’ll focus on highlight the specific games included and point out the places where Psikyo Shooting Stars Bravo differs from Psikyo Shooting Stars Alpha. Just like Psikyo Shooting Stars Alpha, Bravo consists of 6 classic games from Psikyo; 5 of which have already been released separately with the new one here being Samurai Aces III: Sengoku Cannon which I’ll discuss in much more depth later.
Gunbird and Gunbird 2 are a couple of Psikyo’s most stand-out shooters
Also, every game here is a traditional shoot ’em up except for Gunbarich which is a quirky Breakout clone with pinball controls and nifty power-ups. Considering I already reviewed 5 of these games already, I won’t go into much detail about them here so please, read my full reviews if you’d like to learn more about them. In summary, Samurai Aces is a vertical shmup which is quite similar to the Strikers 1945 games although much simpler. Its sequel (Tengai) changed things up by offering horizontal gameplay yet it still remains a mostly basic shooter. Next, Gunbird is a classic character-driven shoot ’em up that’s somewhat simple yet is bursting with charm and its sequel (Gunbird 2) is tied with Dragon Blaze. New Super Lucky’s Tale Switch

As my favourite Psikyo shmup. It really went above and beyond the original to offer exciting new mechanics while being set in a crazy and colourful world filled with hilarious characters. Needless to say, it’s the highlight of this package. The six games included in this collection are Gunbird, Gunbird 2, Gunbarich, Samurai Aces Episode 1, Samurai Aces Episode 2: Tengai, and Samurai Aces Episode 3: Sengoku Cannon. To begin with, the centrepiece of this collection is the two Gunbird games. As fun as some of the other included games are, these two titles will be the primary selling point for most players – and rightly so.
Sengoku Cannon looks and feels a bit too dated
Gunbird was originally released in Japanese arcades in 1994. Since that time, it has been a staple title in the Psikyo team’s shmup lineup, but under the lens of a review, it is somewhat difficult to understand why. Generally speaking, it is hard to point out any remarkable or interesting features of Gunbird, other than the main character, Marion, is reminiscent of a Studio Ghibli creation (which is no bad thing at all). Sengoku Cannon is an interesting game. For starters, it released in 2005 for PSP which makes it the only non-arcade game in this collection. Nexomon: Extinction Switch NSP

To be frank, it’s quite a disappointing shmup which is especially heartbreaking because I’ve been looking forward to playing it for a long time. Its graphics consist of dull 3D environments that rotate and zip by as you control a small sprite that shoots at a generic mix of 2D and 3D enemies. The gameplay is surprisingly barebones considering it released well after the first 2 Samurai Aces games as all you do is shoot while collecting power-ups that increase your firepower. Sure, there are 3 types of attacks including a focused one that slows you down and a cannon shot that turns bullets into coins but none of this comes across as fresh or exciting.
Five excellent games included
Don’t get me wrong; I’m happy that such a rarity is finally available for modern consoles and it isn’t a bad game. It’s simply average and plays like a PS1 game that you’d find in the bargain bin then play every once in a while. If it featured detailed 2D visuals and clever gameplay mechanics then it would have been in-line with Psikyo’s other shoot ’em ups but instead, it’s one of those long-forgotten games that likely wouldn’t have received praise even when it initially released back in the day. The scoring system is basic to the point of practically not existing (just kill stuff and collect coins).

The hitboxes of the characters, especially Marion, are absurd. Rather than being centred in the body of the sprite, like most shmup hitboxes, the hitboxes in Gunbird tend to be placed in the heads or necks of the character, which makes sense theoretically but feels awful in practice. Nevertheless, Gunbird still remains a favourite of ours because the sum total of what the game offers – engaging visuals, catchy music, light-hearted charm, and good level design – outweigh the merit of the individual parts. If you are new to Psikyo, Gunbird is a great starting place. Just be aware that the hitboxes of the game are chunky, and trying to micro-dodge your way through a mess of bullets will typically lead to quick frustration. Nickelodeon All Star Brawl PS5
