Under The Waves PS5 Free Download Romslab Ever since I played classic titles such as Heavy Rain and Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy, I have learned to trust that when Quantic Dream releases a game, it’s gonna be good, so I have been looking forward to Under the Waves since it was first announced. Fellow French studio Parallel Studio is actually the developer of this game, with Quantic Dream handling the publishing, but with the latter’s reputation for crafting extraordinary narratives complemented by top-notch production values, my expectations for this title were sky-high. Thankfully, I wasn’t disappointed. Together with the Surfrider Foundation, a non-profit organisation devoted to safeguarding the world’s oceans, waves, and beaches, the team have managed to create a beautiful and poignant narrative, touching upon heavy themes like grief, guilt and loss, all while serving as a love letter to the ocean itself. the gameplay can get slightly repetitive on occasion, but for the most part I found myself fully immersed in its depths for hours on end, delving deeper into the abyss of not only the vast ocean, but the human mind. Set in a futuristic 1979, we meet Stanley Moray, an offshore operator / diver, just as he descends into the sea on a one-man mission to oversee the operations of UniTrench, a big oil-drilling company. This isn’t just a routine job for Stan though, who is doing everything he can to escape the tragic reality of his own life. Some years earlier, he lost his young daughter, Pearl, and although he is still together with Emma, Pearl’s mother, he can’t get over the loss of his little girl. Hoping that he will be able to find peace by being on his own at the bottom of the ocean for a couple of weeks, he attacks the task head-on, only able to communicate with the surface through Tim.
A man trying to overcome his traumatic past and save his own life, both literally and figuratively.
Stan is supposed to do routine maintenance and repairs on the underwater oil rigs, and for the first couple of days this goes according to plan. From the Life Module where he lives, he gets his missions and tasks from Tim every morning, and usually gets called out to check for leaks, remove algae and do minor repairs. To aid him with navigating the ocean floor, Stan has a little submersible called Moon, which enables him to more quickly and safely traverse longer distances, although he can also get out and swim around when needed while it’s not a horror game, it is deeply unsettling at times. The ocean makes an excellent setting thanks to its inherent vastness, and how wildly alien it is for us land-dwellers. There’s an incredible atmosphere to this game, a sort of constant sense of impending doom coupled with occasional, odd moments of beauty. Cobalt Core Switch NSP

A one-man mission deep underwater at the behest of an almost-certainly terrible corporation. He’s glad of the opportunity because his personal life is in turmoil, and the ocean floor seems like a good place for him to get away from it all. Over the course of his time there, we find out more about him, why he’s there, and what it is that’s eating away at him. Even though Stan is in frequent conversation with a colleague on the surface, this is a tremendously lonely game. There’s a lot of swimming in dark areas, keeping an eye on the comically inadequate oxygen tank to make sure we don’t drown, occasionally eyeing a fish or a seal or something more sinister, and then heading back to home base to sit, alone, looking depressed. Under the Waves falters frequently on the technical side, and even though you can complete it in less than 10 hours, we came across numerous ugly glitches.
Unfathomable depths to retro-futuristic facilities, immersed in a contemplative ambiance brought to life by an atmospheric soundtrack.
One time our quest markers disappeared, so we couldn’t finish a quest and had to restart. Another time we got an error message every time the game auto-saved, and we experienced numerous crashes, too. Stan took this job to get away from and deal with his grief, and he’s very successful in his isolationist endeavour, as he is basically the only human you’ll see in this game. You’ll only hear two others: his wife over the phone and Stan’s supervisor, Tim, who will be assigning your tasks by radio. Working for underwater oil drilling companies isn’t as exciting as you’d think once you get past how utterly beautiful everything is, as you’ll spend much of your time troubleshooting problems and swimming to get to them. There’s a bit of light puzzling involved as well, but the focus isn’t really on the tasks themselves, they’re more a framework to deliver the story. Cobra Kai 2: Dojos Rising Switch NSP

They might not be exciting, but I did find it to be immensely relaxing, swimming or subbing through the gorgeous underwater vistas and marvelling at the vaguely ominous shapes on the seabed. There was a brief moment of panic when I saw some sharks, but then they just swam around me harmlessly and scattered, lulling me back into a calm reverie. The narrative woven through all of this is well written and, at times, heartbreakingly sad. There’s a couple of unresolved threads that I was a little disappointed with, but the focus really is on Stan’s journey so I can understand why they were left hanging. Dialogue is particularly good, especially with some excellent voice acting to go with it, and there’s a few really emotionally intense conversations in here that are still believable even despite some pretty awful facial animation.
Your way through caves, wrecks, and submerged plants in search of backstory pieces, salvageable waste, collectibles, and more.
Being in synch with what he’s saying, and often just continue waggling when he’s already stopped speaking, which is a pretty big immersion breaker. Thankfully it’s one of only a handful of small areas that take you out of the game and the story. Stan has a routine, he starts a day with coffee, speaks to Tim, gets his assignments and heads out into the blue. And what a blue it is! Whilst the game is letterboxed slightly, this game is absolutely beautiful everywhere that isn’t Stan’s face (sorry, Stan). I mean, it looks like the bottom of the ocean, with lighting and all kinds. There’s a couple of other things that ruin the vibe though, such as the camera in enclosed spaces being a bit awkward, and sometimes the swimming animations of fish jittering slightly, like they brushed against an electric eel or something, and occasionally they’ll swim through a solid rock or wall.

It’s that which was the hook that kept pulling me in and as I played on I felt connected to the main character, as well as one called Jo. These are all small issues that don’t happen too often, but they are still there. Stan is sent down into the depths for maintenance and inspection duties. It quickly becomes clear that he’s not just taking the job to admire leatherback turtles and whale sharks, but rather to escape a profound darkness in his life. Stan’s psyche is as fragile as the underwater environment itself. The situation is strongly reminiscent of Firewatch, the adventure game in which the main character, Henry, escapes a difficult life reality by seeking refuge in the solitude of a national park. Just like in that game, the dialogue in Under the Waves takes place exclusively via long-distance calls. Codename: Ocean Keeper Switch NSP
